VF Engineering Introduces Street Sport E46 M3 series

VF-Engineering is a site sponsor...VSE Chuck

Press Release VF-Engineering
Anaheim, California. 02/12/09 (updated 2/14/09)

VF-Engineering looking for local promotional cars for installation of promotional "Streetsport" Supercharger kit. Based on our extremely popular 475hp (400rwhp) 6psi stage 1, and 580hp (500rwhp) 10psi Stage 2+ kit, the VF-Streetsport kit is aimed at the enthusiast looking for a strong power upgrade and potential to add stage 1 and 2 power levels later.

The "Streetsport" kit consists of
- Vortech V3 (no oil lines) latest design supercharger
- VF CNC machined billet 6061-T6 aluminum anodised bracket system with Chrome-moly triangulation bracket
- VF cast intake manifold !!
- K&N cold air intake with plastic molded air box
- Greddy type-R bypass valve
- GIAC custom tuned ECU reflash
- No aftercooler
Install time approx 6-8 hours
Max boost 4 psi
Estimated 440hp (flywheel)
Retail Price $5900.
If you are local to us and are looking to get involved in our promotion, we are offering kits below the retail price point to interested enthusiasts. You can also reach us on nik@vf-engineering.com

Thank you for all the IM’s and emails. Please keep them coming!
I have been asked many questions which I am sure many are thinking of. To help everyone, I have compiled some more details below. I have added the same text in my OP and will add more as I encounter new questions from you.
Please note: all data is obtained on 91 octane on a Dynojet dyno. All prices are Retail. Promotional prices and M3forum discounts are available from time to time but to avoid confusion I am only referring to retail prices here. No data on stage 3 (low compression pistons and forged rods) is listed because it is currently in the middle of R&D.
What are all of VF’s supercharger options for the E46 M3?
Streetsport 4-5 psi non-cooled $6000 440hp
Stage1 5-6 psi air/water $9900 475hp
Stage2 8-9 psi air/water $11900 580hp
Stage3 14-15psi air/water $tba 720hp

Can I upgrade from one stage to another?
Yes, all levels of kits (apart from stg3) are based on the same supercharger, brackets, and hardware. The systems are fully upgradeable. The Streetsport comes with the replacement air/water heat exchanger manifold but without the cooling core. It looks absolutely amazing. The value for money is unbeatable. When you want to upgrade from Streetsport to stage 1, we send you the cooler core which slides into the intake manifold, and balance of parts to make it a complete stage 1. Upgrading from any level to the next is very simple and modular. Going from stage1 to 2, is priced higher because we give a rebate when you return some of the stage1 parts replaced with parts included in the stage 2 kit.
Streetsport to Stage 1 $3900
Streetsport to Stage 2 $6000
Stage1 to Stage 2 $3000 (we include a rebate when you return injectors and MAF)

What happens on race gas?
With MS109 the ECU advances ignition timing automatically and we have seen upto +40hp on stage 1,2&3.
What are the differences between each option?
Stage 1 and 2 are well known – they use the air/water chargecooler manifold that our kits are so well known for. HOWEVER, the Streetsport kit also comes with this manifold, only the air/water heat exchanger core is not provided but simply slides-in when you upgrade to stage 1. All the hardware across the kits is the same. The stage 3 kits can only be installed in house and require upgrading to a T-trim on an exchange basis and we keep it very simple.

The VF Streetsport kit idea came about because:
our most active dealer in the US, Rogue Engineering suggested it to us about a year ago. Slowly more and more requests for this type of product grew and so here we are.
We have not had to create any new components to set up the Streetsport kit. It is specd from our stage1 kit but without the air/water core (which can be added at any time).
Many will have seen our stage1 air/water heat exchanger as the welded aluminum piece that was manufactured by a local aerospace company for us. As costs soared, we started the design on a cast aluminum version 18 months ago and displayed it at the last M-Fest gathering at our facility 2 months ago. This new manifold replaces our sheet metal version and is a one piece heat treated aluminum manifold with internal guides that all you to slide in an optional air/water heat exchanger. In fact it uses a larger core than our previous design. Now for the ice-berg breaker ! We include this manifold in the Streetsport Kit !!!
below> New cast one-piece intake manifold supplied with all levels of kits including Streetsport.

below> Air/Water chargecooler setup (shown with old sheetmetal manifold).

All our ECU recalibration is designed and tested with GIAC and we believe we are the only E46M3 FI kit in the world that retains the use of the OEM MAF sensor. This allows us to calibrate the ECU and leave all OEM emission systems in tact. The MAF is instrumental in allowing the ECU to adjust dynamically as the OEM designed and not have to operate on one locked map. This is a benefit for those that live in environments different to where we calibrate (Sunny California!). If you live at altitude, or by the seam or hot or dry or wet environment, the ECU can adapt.
All our E46 kits use the latest Vortech V3 supercharger which is has many times more volumetric efficiency on S54 motor than smaller Rotrex units. The Vortech V2 or V3 is physically a large unit and when you see one it is obvious why it has so much capacity and headroom for upgrading power.

What are the differences between the parts in each stage?
Streetsport kit- GIAC custom Streetsport flashed ECU recalibration
• Vortech V3 for 4-5 psi with VF CNC bracketry, support and BMW idlers
• Goodyear Gatorback serpentine belt
• VF cast intake manifold
• Greddy Type R bypass valve
• VF cast inlet with stock MAF
• K&N Filter with VF plastic airbox
Components supplied when upgrading from Streetsport to Stage 1- GIAC custom Stage 1 flashed ECU recalibration
• Supercharger pulley for 5-6 psi
• Stage 1 serpentine belt
• Air/water slide in cartridge for intake manifold
• Air/water reservoir with pump and hose system
• Bosch stage1 high flow fuel injectors
Components supplied when upgrading from Stage1 to Stage 2
• GIAC custom tuned stage 2 software
• Supercharger pulley for 5-6 psi and serpentine belt
• Stage 2 serpentine belt
• Replacement fuel pressure regulator
• Replacement serpentine belt tensioner
• Bosch Stage2/3 High flow fuel injectors
• MAF upgrade conversion
• Stage 2/3 K&N induction filter and stage 2/3 air box

Can we see dynos for the Streetsport kit?
The final software testing for the Streetsport kit will be performed over the next 2-3 weeks and we will publish plots in this thread and will be updating our webpage to add this kit next week.

How can I order my Streetsport kit?
You can pre-order a Streetsport kit by filling in this order form and faxing it to us, or your dealer. www.vf-engineering.com/orderform.pdf
This thread was started as we are looking for local test cars to make final software adjustments. Once that is complete, the Streetsport will be put on public released and start shipping ! We have found several local test cars and are waiting for them to be dropped off next week.

Would this work at a track? Or would a Stage 1 be better with the intercooler to help prevent heat soak?

Hey aus,
With this little amount of boost, it would probably work just fine with track conditions however, if you have the choice, the charge cooler manifold would be ideal in this case.

We would have had 100 of the E92 kits pre-sold already at this price point!
