BMW M3 DCT or Manual
IF I had to do it over....alas the E93 M3 will be my last BMW after 20 years...time to move to a big boy car....two letters and a number...lol GT3!....
I drove an S6 Eduardo and I really liked it.....can use it all year round and and it has a V10 N/A motor w/some highway grunt to it!!
I am working over the sales rep...lol
.....
Getting a little tired of shifting every day...sucks gettin old....but the GT3 will be just the right weekend/track fix!.

What happened to that tank of a Hummer you had?
...I got rid of that exactly one year to the day that I got it.!I will be 46 in January and the knee aint what she used to be....lol...Football will do that to you
...Had a HORRENDOUS dealership experience from what is purportedly the "BEST" dealership in NY.....coupled w/styling cues that are not really all to my liking....time for a change is all.
I will be coming out to AZ for the auto auctions in 2011 so you can get me at the airport buddy ol`pal

Happy Holidays

Hmm. Don't recall ever saying it wasn't a superior performance option. I'm not going to rehash the 6spd vs. flappy paddle debate here b/c it's been done ad nauseum. As I stated, if you want to go faster around a track, get the DCT. I personally like a clutch pedal and a shifter. Will I be slower than my PDK counterparts? Hell yes. But that doesn't bother me one little bit

Are you just clicking reply?
I had an M5 with SMG (yeah, yeah, not the exact same but similar enough). The novelty WILL wear off.
Last year I was dead set on buying either an M3 or an Evo MR, with DCT in whichever car I bought. Both dealers in town had the car I wanted, a loaded black car. Neither dealer would budge from retail price ($44K for the Evo, 55 or so for the BMW), so I bought the barely used M5 privately for cheaper-hah, suckers! Needless to say, both dealers called me endlessly for the next 6 mohts to try to sell the cars stuck on their lots forever. But that's another story.
Turns out the SMG is exactly awesome at full throttle, like the DCT should be also. Kinda crappy at low speeds but whatever, no worse than an '84 Buick Skylark. If I need a manual tranny fix I can drive the race car, the winter beater, or the pickup.
My personal opinion is that modern luxury/performance and even most cars will end up going in the DCT direction, if you want to drive a stick you need to have something like a Lotus or Evo RS that caters to the whole driving experience vs comfort thing.
No, he's typing CURIO, which won't work. Your username is CURI0, with a zero on the end, rather than a capital o.
For me it was an easy decission. My 08M3 is a commuter car so DTC was the only option. I also had an E46 SMG which was only dirvable in manual mode. However the E90 is very doable in automatic mode.
That being said, if I didnt have a second car with a 6speed I would surely miss it.

thanks guys for all the feedback. but in the end I decided on the s5..
the bmw folks were being ridiculous in pricing which made it easier for me to go with audi. Its been a while since ive last owned an audi (1993 coupe). I know im giving up a lot of ponies but the s5 is a little more exclusive in my area then the m3..
I still enjoyed the dct tranny and find myself wishing I had that in traffic...

ok guys i know im responding a few years later to this topic but i think you missing out on a bigger scope here. shouldn't we be debating also the cost of maintenance and the reliability of both the manual and DCT? which you think is more reliable and more cost affective to fix in the event of malfunction which is easier to be dealt with? which has less electronics involved and which necessitates dealer involvement more than the other??? awaiting your reponses regarding this matter gearheads.!....
