BMW M3 DCT or Manual

I am really torn right now. i have always been a 6speed kinda guy but after a drive in the DCT, all I can say is wow!.. .Just curious if anyone on here has had regretswith the DCT over the 6sp. After the novelty wears off, is it still as fun to drive as a manaul?

One more thing, does anyone know what the mark up is on a '10 m3? Ive heard 7% but that seems a little low to me. Whats invoice on these cars?

thanks in advance.

If I were to buy an M3, it would be a street car and as such I'd get the 6MT, the only reason I'd get the DCT is if my M3 was gonna be a track car.

My feelings are different as driving on the street made it that much easier to opt for the DCT.

I have no regrets but DCT certainly is not perfect. Completely personal preference and no one else is going to decide for you. It will never be as much fun or as connected as a manual but it will always shift faster, be more consistent, and more convenient.

No mark up in this economy, I can't even believe markup would be discussed this far into the model run . Instead of paying 7% over you should be paying 7% under.

Unless your driving in bumper to bumper traffic and/or want faster laps around a track, get the 6 speed. I had an M5 with SMG (yeah, yeah, not the exact same but similar enough). The novelty WILL wear off.

I love everything about manual transmissions... not a fan of SMG, but I have to admit, the performance of the DCT is so much superior to manual, I would go with DCT. You will lap faster on a road course, you will be faster on a drag strip and it's not nearly as choppy as the SMG. The only reason to get a 6 speed is to retain that feel of the driving experience. The GTR performs the way it does mostly due to the dual clutch. The new 997TT offers PDK, the Cayman S PDK is amazing... I think this is the future of sports cars because the performance advantage can't be ignored.

Most certanily does not wear off, if it did I would have gone from SMG to manual, not to DCT, right?

Fact is the DCT is the superior performance option.

Thumbs up Dct

I have an 08E92....in a 6spd. for two reasons....1st: I got my car in April of 08 one of the first in my area so DCT was NOT an option for me at the time....if I had chosen that I probably would have gotten my car in the Fall. 2nd: I am very old school....lol...also I am definately older than most M3 drivers and I like rowing my cars.....
It is my DD except in the winter.....the 6sp def. gives you the feeling of being more in control and connected.....HOWEVER....having driven a DCT on the street AND at the track (NJMP) from a performance point of view the DCT is way ahead of a 6spd. You just fly through the gears and IMHO the DCT is better suited for the S65 motor than a 6spd.
If I had to do it again I would probably have gotten the DCT.
There is an article in Autoweek commenting on the new F10M5 and they say it will receive a significantly better version of the m3 DCT in order to handle what they are prjecting as a 600hp 500/ft trq. monster 4.4 TT V8...with Air to Air Intercooler and some trick wastegates to get the hot air out of the turbos.

I vote go DCT.

I had SMG in my e46 M3 and enjoyed everything about it

It has been my favorite transmission of any car i've had to date - I can only image but trust DCT to be a much better transmission addressing most if not all previous complaints of SMG and then some

I would'nt hesitate going for DCT

thanks everyone for your opinions.

As far as invoice is concern, is kbb accurate? Are they only marking up the m3s ~4k?
So the 7% discount is all you guys think I can get? Are dealers willing to sell for under invoice? SOrry for the questions, its been a while since ive negotiated at the dealership and hate to get taken adv of..

Hmm. Don't recall ever saying it wasn't a superior performance option. I'm not going to rehash the 6spd vs. flappy paddle debate here b/c it's been done ad nauseum. As I stated, if you want to go faster around a track, get the DCT. I personally like a clutch pedal and a shifter. Will I be slower than my PDK counterparts? Hell yes. But that doesn't bother me one little bit
