nos on an e46 m3
You got to be real careful with it and even if you get it to work properly, it is only good for short bursts...not sustained speed.
Your best bet is to look into supercharging...

Man NOS gets such a bad name.
NOS is just like any other power adder, if done correctly your not going to hurt your engine anyworse then any other power adder.
THE ISSUSE IS DUMBASSES! NOS is cheap compared to anything else so people will go buy it and install it themselves and then ka-boom the engine is toast. I know guys that have been running NOS for YEARS and not one issue, but they also paid to have it installed correctly, tuned the car for the NOS and don't push it. Just like increasing the boost, increasing the shot can hurt your car if it's not retuned.
That being said yeah if you don't have the correct internals for the NOS it will make it wear out faster....(depends on how big a shot you run) but so does boosting a car.
At the end of the day if you wanna NOS your e46 go for it, just make sure you do your homework and make sure who ever installs it and tunes it has a good history and you will be fine. Don't push the engine too hard, don't put to big of a shot and go have fun and keep the rubber side down!
og risker is correct in that it's only short bursts, not too mention it's illegal to use on the street. (granted I know people that do, but if you get caught with your bottle hooked up your in trouble! granted there are ways around this as we all know) If your wanting useable HP all the time, then NOS is NOT the way to go.....

I can't sit back and watch this disaster any longer, despite the way the first post is written, here: http://www.m3forum.net/m3forum/showthread.php?t=208229
That is the E46 M3 nitrous FAQ.
The S54 is a stout motor, it will take up to a 250 shot direct port. Nitrous is a great tried and true power booster on it, just be careful going over a 100 shot if not going direct port, which it does not sound like you will be if I were to guess.

i duno i guess from movies and conversation with others it always seemd to me that nos was a thing that only goes good with jdm cars and maybe american cars too but yea i guess your right you have to mod the car right to make the nos work right...which basically is same with any supercharger or turbo u gotta have the right mods for it not to mess up the car.. well thanks for all the answers!
The movies are a joke about NOS, assuming your talking about the Fast and the Furious movies.
You can NOS any car, just a matter of how the engine is made on how big a shot it can take.
Just do your homework and research and have fun, remember, pay to play, and horsepower ain't cheap!

Much more bad information about nitrous than good information.
