Hmm do you get the 550i and modify it or go with the M5? This new direct injection 4.4 is no joke I bet their will be cars over 650 hp very soon after the M5 launches.

i'd imagine the difference will be primarily in the chassis. from the reviews i've seen of mod'd 335's vs stock M3's, mods only bring the standard cars so far. generally, the M's still outperform on the track.

so to answer your question... i'd say get an M5 and modify that.

M5 should top out at 188 mph
Sweet, thats only 12mph lower a top speed then the E60 M5 has...I don't think they have there facts right. It should top out above 200 if it's packing 578hp..

Actually not the The case.. The all Motor platform made peak power at Redline.. While the new M5 will have more power the powerband will not remain the same.. The 10 throttle body setup will not exist either ill bet... Plenty of cars make more Peak HP than an M5 and will not touch 200mph.. The E60 M5 is still my favorite.. the last of the High Revving V10 NA..

Well I believe it has more to do with gearing then making peak power at redline (although that does help of course). There is a host of FI cars that go well past 200 plenty of NA high power cars that don't. I'm still betting the F10 M5 will top out at 200+.

If they keep 6 speed manual that will be awesome, flappy paddles and dct type transmissions are not for me, I want to row gears.

I do not agree. Have you driven the 6MT in an M5/M6? (E60/63)
"Flappy paddles" ? Sorry but I've driven the 6MT and it suks. The shifter is floppy and mushy. The clutch is a joke. Absolutely lame. Sticking your foot into whip cream provides more resistence.
Plus the 6MT will never be as fast as the SMG and certainly not the DCT.
Maybe I'm spoiled by the feel of the shifter and clutch in the GT3RS.

Cheers

Yes the e60 m5's manual was a crappy afterthought. I'm excited to hear that the new M may offer manual tranny from the very beginning. This means that BMW devoted its time to design a proper 3 pedal setup for the upcoming beast.

I wouldnt own an M car with a 6 speed manual if there was a 20% discount.. The 6spd drives like a POS..

6 speed was not matched well to the V10, but was on the E39 M5. If they change ratios and match to the new FI V8, no way in hell would I take smg/dct. I hate SMG's feel, I could careless of a few split milliseconds or the faster shifting, I want to row gears period lol. Even in diesel trucks we've mainly had manual trans, except for the Fords. Different strokes for different people, partner in another biz actually just picked up an SMG M6.... I still hate SMG after driving it today for the hell of it lol.

Maybe I should have worded differently, I didn't mean keep the exact trans and just bolt it on, I mean just offering a manual trans option period.

As bad as the SMG 7 speed is compared to the latest double clutch gearboxes its still ....way.....way better than the ill matched 6 speed they put in the M5. Again why would you want a car that is noticeably and numerically slower in every performance measure just to say you shift it yourself?
