M3 vs 2011 5.0L Mustang GT
#4
I had an E46 and loved the car. Went to look at the new M3 and it really didn't feel very fast. With the price difference and mods available I might actually have to go mustang. I have heard that the interior is much improved over the Tupperware interior of past models. I love my viper though and there has never been a cheeper interior in a car EVER!

Hmmm
Did ford step up their game???....moreover .97gs??....did they say goodbye to live rear axle???...and go fully independent suspension??....
I saw the new 2011 Shelby GT500 at the NYIAS and they said that they shed 120lbs from the motor alone by going to a fully aluminum bloc...but I gotta tell ya the interior fit and finish was still cheesy for a 50k+ car....
as far as an E92 M3' speed.....it is deceptively fast!...I have had all the m3's and each year (from a performance perspective) is waayy better than the last stock for stock.

Wow I thought it was, Found Off Road Dead?
Just a joke guys. How about the Ford GT as an example?
It's what you like and can afford.

Gotta give credit when its due. Ford got this car right and its a lot of bang for the buck. With the track pack on the GT it runs 1:38's at Ginger Man which is pretty close to the E90 M3. Well done!

The stang also has 100 more ft-lbs of torque @ 390 compared to the M3.
Which adds major bonus points in the fun-to-drive factor. Hell, the new 2011 V6 Mustang has 305 HP, runs 13.7's AND gets 31 MPG.

Define eat. Like I said in my last post, the GT ran 2 10ths (1:38.4) slower lap time than a E90 M3 1:38.2 at Ginger Man on the same day this month.

driver can account for ALOT!.....I was at NJMP Thunderbolt a few weeks ago and a fellow is a 300 SRT8 was kicking the snot out of a guy in a Vette....
so perhaps the fellow driving the Stang was really quite good as compared to the guy in the E90.
Don't get me wrong I will always have a soft spot for Mustangs but they have NEVER been known to be great handling cars w/out work.

The 1:38 was exactly the same as the Car and Driver long term E90 m3 results from Dec 09: see page 2

We returned to the 1.9-mile GingerMan Raceway in South Haven, Michigan, where we’d chewed up our stock tires, with much improved results. Although it didn’t feel like there was a whole lot more stick in the corners (our best time was a 1:38.1), more important, lap times remained consistent. But after almost 1000 street miles and a couple of dozen hard laps at GingerMan, the fronts (see photo) had 2/32nds of an inch of tread left. The rears fared better, only burning through half (3/32-inch) of their tread. Even though the BMW-specific Sport Cups didn’t outgrip the PS2s, having a tire that’s consistent and lasts significantly longer during abusive lapping is indeed a boon for the track-rat M3 owner. ——Dave VanderWerp
