It is limited to 155. A Dinan chip will remove that limiter. The top end should be in the mid 170s.

The top number on your speedo is almost always more than your actual top speed number. My Vipers speedo tops out at 220mph ... does than mean my Viper will do 220? With mods, yes, but not stock ...

A stock M3 will be hard pressed to see anything over 170mph

I would say the mid 160's is more accurate.....

Stock e46 M3 is limited from he factory to 155mph. Without a limiter they will pull into the mid/high 170s and with enough room might even touch 180mph. As someone else said the speedo will always be off by 5-10mph (reading faster than you're actually going) at those speeds.

Teutonic..

I know just a little about M3;s .... Ive only run them professionally in various series for the past 7 years.. And I am currently running a car for a client in Grand Am Cup. E46 m3.. Our RACE CARS dont see 170 even at Daytona.. And they weigh 500lbs less than stock and make approx 50 hp more than stock..

Stop Key board tuning and get YOUR facts straight...

But hey what do I know...............

There was a video awhile back where a guy was doing 182MPH in his (at least that s what it said on his *****o) however, BMW's *****os are always over-rated from the tests I've seen.

and yes, I've owned and modded bmw's in a past life....

Will that chip that removes the gov. on a E36 M3 still allow it to pass smog in Ca.

Is it a dinan chip?

Dinan will pass smog in CA

there are multiple stages, the lower ones dont really affect anything.

if all you do is remove the limiter, it won't affect anything except your top end speed.
