Ford is releasing the "Boss 302" version which is lowered and has a few more hp (440hp) from the factory.

From the article, you can tune suspension with a flat head screwdriver:

"Higher rate springs have been added all around with stiffer suspension bushings and an enlarged rear stabilizer bar help the 2012 Boss 302 hammer through the turns as well as giving the Boss a more aggressive (lowered) stance than the 2011 Mustang GT. Most importantly, the 2012 Boss 302 comes with adjustable shocks and struts to optimize the track (and daily driving) experience. Unlike some suspension systems that use electronic controls to adjust the suspension, the 2012 Boss 302 uses the old-school method of adjustments atop the shock and strut mounts. These adjustable components need only a flat-head screwdriver to select between 1 through 5 for the stiffness settings."

I have a feeling this stock mustang will put a hurting on an M3.

the BOSS 302 will pwn the M3 for a lot less money. An excellent achievement! But as everyone is saying, you can go really fast in an Nismo 370z, but you'd rather have a Cayman S.

Saw an article that said on a standard track the Boss 302 Mustang will be 2 seconds per lap faster than the standard 5.0 w/big brakes & gearing options.

No **** man. I would bet there are very few people cross shopping these cars. I don't give a rat's *** how good a performer the Mustang is, they do absolutely nothing for me.

I agree, not too many people are cross shopping. I think it's more to do with magazine and bulletin board bragging rights though. If you wanted to spend M3 type money on a Mustang, there have been many higher performing options on the market for years (Shelby, Saleen, etc.). It's crazy to think the base V6 mustang now has E46 M3 speed with much better gas mileage. Lets hope this spurs BMW to make the M3 better (CSL maybe?) and not ride it out for another 3-4 years with no performance improvements (ala E46 M3).

Yeah these types of comparisons are just ridiculous.

There isn't an E9x M3 owner on the planet that would trade their car for that mustang. On the other hand, I'd bet that more than half of those mustang owners would trade for the M3 in a heartbeat if they could. /thread
