What does $25K get in an M3?

I have a friend looking to get an M3 for $23K-$27K range. Can you guys give me an idea on what to recommend to him.

IE-newer high mileage or older low mileage, etc. He will use it as a DD in the midwest and will not be looking to mod it.

Thanks.

I've been looking at a lot... that will get an '05 give or take a year w/ 30k miles...

I'm looking for an '01 or '02 w/ "reasonable miles" for my son...(and for he and I to work on together)... cheapest E46s I'm seeing are around 13K, but they've got mad miles...

I'm looking at 330Ci and other models w/ SMG transmission and/or ZHP package too...

M3Forum has some good info.

An E46 6speed with 30k miles is a hot commodity and one would spend around $30k maybe a bit more. An SMG is another story, there are a ton of those things out there and can be had in the low $20k's with low miles. In my opinion 6speed is necessary espcially on a used vehicle with no warranty. The best place to buy although pricey is www.enthusiastauto.com bur they don't even deal with SMG equipped cars.

m3forum.net has a white one with low miles, nicely modded for $25K, too lazy to search for the link.

They are out there if you look. I'm located in the midwest, asking 19k for mine (02) with 85k miles. Fairly stock other than light cosmetic stuff. I've seen a couple go in the 13k range, but they have been 150k miles or so.

My friend got his 97 e36 with 110k miles for 4,000$ ...lol

Some of the mods included a different intake, exhaust and few other things. Just one little thing is wrong with the paint but other than that its in great condition

Personally, I would tell your friend to wait until he can afford to spend $30k. That amount should get you a clean 05-06 with average miles. I picked up this 06 ZCP with 19k miles for $32k a year ago so deals can be found if you're patient.
