When the car is running for an hour or so the car makes a thumping noise from the rear. I also had a 2013 M5 which did the same is this normal?

I am unsure what you are talking about... please describe the symptom better.
Under what conditions does it occur? Is it only when in motion? When coming to a stop? When the gears are shifting? When turning?

I had a 2013 M5, and I have a 2014 M5 now... I don't think I hear (or have heard) any thumping.
There is a whining noise that comes from the front of the car now after I passed approximately 1000 miles upon initial start up as the car warms up and the wheels turn left or right, but that goes away - I had this on my 2013 and has started recently on my 2014.

 

its only when is on D and N P when its idle the sound comes from the rear of the car only after a long ride. the sound is not there always it comes every once and a while
