btw... just found out it IS a 997S... you didn't expect it to run with the 500hp cars, did you?
here's the full length video:
http://video.google.com/videoplay?do...=best+motoring
nice opening with F50, "Super Tourismo vs Pure Sport" comparo: XJR, M5, CLS55 inc. acceleration tests.
damn.. watch the CLS55 vs M5... 2 runs. They talk about Launch Control.. well I don't know what they say but I know they are talking about it. Looks like the M5 is predictable and easy (?) to control at the limit. Gallardo, 997S, M3CSL, nice footage of all cars.

I think the 997S is a bit dissapointing. I can understand the Gallardo taking it on a track, but the 997S is new technology and should fair a little better against the others on the track, especially a sedan. Not just an issue of horsepower here. The 997S was not shinning through the twisties either. How old is the technology on the Nissan and CSL???
I am not suggesting that the Porsche is less desireable as most of us won't be driving it in this manner. I just think Porsche is starting to lag behind a little from a performance stand point or these little 20 hp bumps every few years won't be enough to keep ahead of the competition. I wonder how the 997 line will fair against the R8 and new M3s or M6s.

It is not your everyday Skyline. If you want to see a nice video about this certain Skyline, that will explain to you it's differences, here is a link: download - 150mb.

Keep in mind these Best Motoring videos are not the bible. They often have a "hidden agenda" and also they don't wanna trash these high $$ cars so they are not at 100% for the whole race. So, as far as a real-world test of M5 vs 997S, no I don't believe you can make a conclusion from this video. The new M5 is definitely a beast but I think the 997S would take it at a roadcourse with standardized testing. When I made the comment about the 997S not running with the 500hp cars, I was only talking about the Skyline and the Gallardo.

It's not so much as "hidden agenda", it's just not all drivers are the same. Look at the lines the 911 was taking. They put the best driver (drift king) in the M5. And it's interesting that the GTR can't keep up in the beginning then whoosh, passed everyone. Yea, right. I believe it.
It is a "hidden agenda". For certain episodes, they have a feature car. That is, they showcase a feature car. This means, they let it "win". The drivers are all very good - most of them are pro drivers (or ex-pro drivers) from JGTC series. They know what they're doing. Btw, the Skyline GTR Z-Tune is like the "holy grail" of their series... they won't let it lose.
