Burnt clutch.. Please read.
I bought my car used with 29,000 miles and have approx 34,000 miles. When I bought my car, I noticed the clutch felt alittle sloppy but nothing to serious. I was driving this morning and while leaving 3rd gear around 4,500 rpm i put it in 4th and gave it some gas. Noticed the rpm reved up rapidly and then let off, and then back on again. The rpm went up to 7000 rpm with no movement. It felt as if i were losing traction but only in 4th gear. I down shifted into 3rd and gave some gas and I gained no speed, as if I were in neutral. I then depressed the clutch and put it in neutral, pulled over and let off the clutch but it was stuck in the depressed position. It was gradually releasing from being engaged. I smelt burning clutch and popped the hood and smoke came racing out.. I turned the car off and let it sit for about 30 minutes and tried to see if it can operate again. I can move through each gear when the motor is off, but when running I cant force into any gear with clutch depressed... I am aware that my clutch is burnt, does anything else appear to be damaged? How much do new clutches cost and how much for install? sorry for the long read.

I don't think so. Clutch is wear and tear item and 34K miles is more than enought for a unskilled driver to kill the clutch especially on the sports car like M3. I highly doubt that dealership will try to find a defective part that lead to the clutch failure, unless you bought several cars from them
. I paid ~$1350 to change it on 540. The only thing is that in my case it didn't happend all of the sudden, but over time the clutch started to slip more and more.
Yeah, no way will they cover a burnt clutch under warranty, unless you are related to the BMW Regional Service Manager or something.
