Wow...should be amazing!

Hopefully BMW won't burden the motor w/ a lot of excess weight. CF roof is def step in right direction. I loved my '01 E46 M3, only complaint was the oem 3400lbs+.

awwwww man i was just going to post the leftlanenews.com article here (http://www.leftlanenews.com/bmw-details-new-m3s-420-horsepower-v8.html) but you beat me to it lol...

anyway nice hp numbers but weird torque curve. i guess bmw like using matchstick cylinders huh. i'm certainly not complaining -- my m3 never really feels out of the power band, except really down low, and it's even handicapped by being a cabrio!!

"Variable camshaft control, low-pressure double-VANOS for an
optimum charge cycle, system offering full power and performance even with normal engine oil pressure.
• Eight individual throttle butterflies for spontaneous engine response.
• Consistent and reliable oil supply with longitudinal and lateral acceleration up to 1.4 g ensured by two oil pumps and wet sump oil lubrication optimised for supreme dynamic behaviour."

I think I'd rather have instantaneous engine response.

Whats up with those trq numbers though. Not even 300 trq. Whats up with that the 335 has more trq than a M3 . That car should have 425 hp and like 340 trq or something. It will still be fast though.. cant wait to see times. But just imagine if the the trq was beefed up hmmmmmmmm

I was looking at the pics of the exhaust and thinking the same thing... With a muffler and 3 sets of cats, there's plenty of power left.

Seems to be a gem of a motor, but the 335 motor is actually 26 lbs lighter, puts out more torque and is way more tuneable.

Hopefully the M3 will have some special bits to make it worth the premium over a 335.

Maybe I'm missing something....but it looks like it hits 300 torque at about 1700 rpm and climbs to a high of about 400.

See the 'torque' on the left of the graph.

hold the show guys... don't just look at peak torque... look at how FLAT that torque curve is... woooaahahah... the 335 may have more peak torque but it only has it for 1000 rpm and quickly tapers off after 5000 rpm....

this engine has gobs of torque right until 7500 rpm .... this baby is gonna fly....

Wow...that IS pretty low. It doesn't seem right though. My 540 with 282 hp and 4.4l V8 had about 330 ft/lbs of torque. I actually thought it was hard for a V8 to NOT have 300+ torque.

Here is the conversion if anybody was wondering.... take Nm and divide by 1.35491 to get ft/lbs of torque.
