new X5 which engine?

well my dad has been bugging me to ask this question on some of my car forums so here it goes.

he is going to buy a new x5, but cant decided which engine to get. is it worth the extra 7k for the v8?

it will be my moms DD, she is dumping her 745i.

I just picked up a 4.8i and it's certaintly worth it. There are some small differences like fenders, wheels, etc with the 4.8i. Not sure if your mom will appriciate them ,but coming from a 745i she likely will appriciate the power.

I have always believed in getting the biggest engine within reason . You rarely hear people complaining about too much power. I have driven the 6 and 8 cylinder and personally would go with the v8 hands down. Even if you are not driving hard it is always nice to have a little extra power for lane changes of freeway merging. If you ever take the car on trips, passing in an suv with a 6 cylinder is not fun.

yes. From what I have heard the 20" wheel option and navigation are backordered currently and will extend your order until august, so if the dealer has either of these items on a stock vehicle feel lucky (4.8i with the 20"S looks awesome for whats it's worth).

The 4.8 engine is great. I'd cop that if I were in the market for one.

If the more engine the better is the mantra, you my friend, must go for the ml63...the king of da sport SUVs...haha

Seriously, I love the new x5s...and the 4.8 is the only way if you "have the means" as Mr. Ferris once said...

my wife picked up a 3.0 in February. she isn't very engine conscience and even she thinks the 6 is too small (the decision to get the 6 was hers). Get the 4.8. That is the only way that I would make it my daily driver.

thanks ill let me dad know your thoughts.

kinda figured it would be 4.8

while the difference would be a car that costs 67k instead of 60k it really isnt a money lack of money issue.

if u have ask, V8.

never get the idea of a big heavy SUV with a small engine. at the end u might use more gas in the small engine trying to go faster. has to be 4.8.

if it is for your mom get her the 6. my mom has a 540i and i think it is too much car for her, but it is my fault that she wound up with a 540. i think the 6 cyl. would be plenty. but then again, the x5 is a different beast altogether so i dont know. me personally, i would only buy the 8 (or the 6 turbo and chip it).

Don't get the 3.slow, go for the 4.8 and put on the exhaust, i had a 04 4.4l and put a Eisenmann race exhaust on it. I let my girl drive it and she was addicted, sold the X5 to my buddy for his wife and she said no deal without the exhaust. GO FOR THE 4.8!
