Hate my M6

I bought an M6 in February, but I am completely dissatisfied with my purchase. Although I have had it in the shop several times, the tranny seems to slip, and have a long lag.
Anyone else have any problems with theirs???

M6

When it is not in the shop, it still does not perform as well as i would like it to. I have driven many different styles of the paddle shifting cars, and this one is by far the least responsive of all of them.

why not? are you saying SMG in inherently problematic? would 6spd fix it or something else is the problem?

I have not heard of SMG slipping. Typical complaint with SMG is that it is jerky which I agree. SMG needs to be driven hard to make it smooth and is probly the least satisfying paddle shifter out there athought there aren't that many to begin with.

My primary complaint with M6 would be its girth and weight. Tranny problem is a bit of surprise to me.

my SMG started slipping in my M3 at about 55k miles - delayed shifts that took more then 5 seconds at a time and sometimes wouldnt shift at all - i would shift into 3rd and i would hear a clicking repeatedly and it wouldnt shift i would have to go to 4 or back to 2 - 3rd was always messed up - my warrenty was out, but i took it to the dealer and they put in a brand new tranny for me, under warrenty didnt cost me a thing, oh they replaced the clutch and flywheel too i believe which i did have to pay for due to it being a wear part

Its only jerky if it isn't driven right. Mine was smooth even in bumper-to-bumper daily commute. No diff than a regular manual.

Anyway, back on topic....what sort of issues has it been in the shop for. Have you asked the dealer to look at the tranny or have you driven another one to compare the transmissions?

Hey I'll take it off your hands!

Sorry to hear about your problems, but it's still an amazing car despite issues. That's what warranty is for.

Try driving a different M6. If the other one is better than you know you have a problem in your specific car. IF the other M6 is the same than i guess it's more of the car you have a problem with. Trade it. My M5 tends to be jerky when your not paying attention to shifting, but like someone else said when it's driven hard it's shifts are pretty fluid although you hear the clunking going on underneath your seats.

How do other Paddle shifting trasmissions compare?? Ferrari? Lambo?

Before ordering my '08 M6 my dealer arranged for me to drive an smg M6 and 6 speed. I hated the smg. Everyone seems to love smg, but it felt very disconnected to me. The "normal" shift lagged, and it seemed to pick when it wanted to shift, not me. I then drove the 6 speed. I loved it. With the ability to disable DSC on the 08s with manual transmission, it makes it even more desirable. Have you driven a 6 speed?

Lots of people hate the SMG the first couple days of driving it. It's much like the way many people hate manuals the first few days they learn how to drive one. Each takes getting used to to be able to use smoothly and without a lot of thought.
