350Z (GT) vs carman (non-S)!!
A friend has a 350Z and his brake pedal consistently goes to the floor in very hard driving. Don't think he has the uprated brakes, but still...
If I were buying new I'd get a loaded Z over a base Cayman, but if you've already got the P-car I'd suggest putting the money that would go to the car into mods.

No wise guy. I mean anyone who likes moding their car. Face it, there is pewny after market support for Cayman vs the Z. Besides laying on your back turning wrenches is no fun when you can do it topside. All said, I do like the Gayman
I think the CaymanS is a great car...don't know about the Cayman. I can see where you are intrigued. I think the 350Z GT is a very nice car especially for the price and you can pick up an '06 G35 for the upper $20's and throw twin turbos on it for about $7K(+installation) and have a car with about 450-475 rwhp.
Out of the box, you simply can't beat the handling of a Cayman(S). Don't know what it would entail or cost to get a 350Z/G35 to that level of handling.

Wow, alot of 350z lovers in this Cayman forum.
I would rather have the S over the 350z too, but it should be a better performing car with a nicer interior at $55k.
But for 50k total, you can make the Z smoke most cars out there. 400 reliable hp is cake, and many tuners are doing 500-700hp. Go read the FI forum on my350z.com...it's very active. There is so much aftermarket support for the VQ it's bonkers.
Regarding the decision to the OP; it boils down to your wallet, ego size, and performance goals. Both cars look and perform very well out of the box.

What's with the 350Z hate? The new V6 engine from Nissan is fantastic with 306HP and a 7500RPM rev limit. Just 500rpms short of the S2000.
It's a great looking car and will blow away the base Cayman; I will not handle as well as the Cayman but it is still a good handling car.
It's not like it's a Mustang or something, it's still a very good sports car and with a 60HP advantage + 15 000$ cheaper it's a tough one.
I'd go with the base Cayman ONLY because I'm a sucker for mid-engined cars.
But if you're looking for a fun sports car, the Nissan is a great choice. Good steering feel, great feeling gearbox, superb engine, low driving position, 2 seater RWD Coupe, etc...

Not exactly correct. 1500rpm shy of the AP1 redline. 700rpm shy of the AP2 redline.
Honestly, for the price range you are looking at, I would get neither and an M roadster or M coupe instead.
For straight line, power the 350z has a nice engine, and it should pull away from a base cayman, but the cayman handles far better.
The base cayman is not slow persay, just not an agrressive acceleration rush.
But the M coupe/roadster combines both lots of power, great handling, and lightweight characteristics at that price point.
