It's not a Buick. I do it every 20.
It's not a civic either.
I changed every 5, but it all depends on how you drive. I also change my own oil, it's not too difficult, and the dealer charges way too much.
Every 5k, when I change my oil, it looks incredibly dark.

Dealer does charge an arm and a leg, but I'll use them for the annual inspection and oil change for the duration of the 4-yr warranty. After that, I'll probably just change it on my own.
My plan is for weekend usage with a mix of AutoX and about 5 track days a year.
Opinions are all over the place with this subject but once a year regardless of mileage is something I can deal with.

I believe someone did a used oil analysis (UOA) on a Cayenne after 20k miles and the oil was still good.
Most people don't drive they Pcar 20k miles / year -- so changing at 1 year is probably the recommended interval.
As a side note, I read a UOA on a Boxster that was driven 5k miles (not sure about the mileage), however, after 4 years and NO OIL CHANGE -- the Mobil 1 was still okay.
Oil technology has improved a long way. I did a UOA on my Prius after 11k miles (3.5 qt oil capacity) -- and the recommendation was: as good a UOA as you can expect. You should CONSIDER changing your oil soon.
Key word: Consider. Meaning, I still have some mileage left after 11k.
You can change your oil at 5k. In most cases, it'll just be a waste of good oil and $$$.
Since changing oil in a Cayman does cost $$$, regardless of if you do it yourself or take it to a dealer, consider doing a UOA. Heck, it costs me $25 to change the oil on my Prius w/ synthetic and I still paid $60 to do a UOA. Worth every penny knowing my engine can go 12k miles between oil changes.

I would send in my sample at 10k and have Terry analyze it, otherwise, you'll have lab results and not really sure what the results really mean. One UOA and you never have to second guess if you have to change it every 5k anymore.
Used oil is supposed to look dark. 5k is overkill. Read http://www.bobistheoilguy.com/forums/ubbthreads.php

The oil returns from polaris who checked oil on my previous m3s showed different results at 10k intervals. They mostly do industrial size liquid tank and sample analysis, but a friend took some samples from me to test out.
One thing is for sure, it's hard to say there is one clear answer.
Yup, When your commuting from Long Island to Manhattan every single day...the miles add up. Heck, I already blown my engine once already.....I got my new engine 2 months ago and it already has about 10k miles.
I just got my first bent lip on my HREs, for those of you who live in NYC....never go to NJ via the Lincoln Tunnel....the roads are like a minefield. There's a huge dip on the right lane when you first enter the tunnel from the Manhattan side......so beware...
