Ouch indeed. I am guessing Carmax will offer you at least 29k.

Good luck!!

You're gonna take a big hit on the your 996 Cab no matter what. There's alot of them available too. Get your estimate from Carmax. If it's more see if your dealer will sweeten his deal a bit. Have you driven the 987 S to see if you really want it?

Good luck in whatever you decide!

It's what they call dealers law, if you offer the customer a heavy discount on the new car you don't offer him the top dollar price on his trade. It works the other way round too.

I paid book (MSRP) on my orange car but got top book price on my trade (also a 2000 996 cab as it happens).

So with this in mind if the new car was as MSRP say $65K and the the top trade is $30K you hand over a check for $35K. Or if the discounted new car is $60K and the low value for the trade would be $25 you would still be handing of a check for $35k roughly although there may be some tax advantages for one way and not the other.

Either way the dealer isn't losing out!!

I think huge upgrade in fun factor by far...but you have to deal with the 'stigma' that exists to an extent..

Personally, I think the Boxster S is an upgrade in fun factor in many ways even over 996 TT...

ask me how I know..

Thanks for the help fellas. I just wanted to switch up the rides really. I took a big hit on the trade in. The dealer offered me the same as Carmax. I guess wholesale on the 996's is just crap these days. I got 25k for my car. I'm getting my Boxster S for 63k. Sticker on the car was 67.8k. Just looking forward to owning my first new Porsche. The 996 I bought was used.

Ok, got back from my dealership. Happy to say before tax my car was 62k not 63k and he was able to match the carmax price of 25k. After tax and documentation fees my "pumpkin" came out to around 65.5k. With my trade it I had to pay 40.5k out the door. I love my car!!! I didn't really push it too hard. Need to read the owner's manual about break in period. Oh, I'm number 197/250. Gonna read my owners manual tonight to figure out all the things my friend didn't get a chance to explain in detail. Can't wait for a nice spring day to take her out!

I just ordered one from a dealership in Pennsylvania. Goes on the carrier tomorrow and arrives within 2 weeks (hopefully). #186. I thought about the RS but I just love the Orange!

I think it would be kinda cool to have number 250/250. Wish it would warm up here already! Love looking at it in my garage

Just a quick question. Was it 250 for the Base and another 250 for the S? Also is the 250 worldwide production or just USA? Just wanted to find out how many are in the USA. I heard that for the RS60 1960 production only half are coming here.

Oh, and I just read the owners manual. The break in period is 2000 miles? And we're supposed to keep it below 4200 rpm? Gosh, this is gonna be hard. My BMW was 1000 miles. Good thing I didn't push it at all last night.

It was 250 for the Base and another 250 S models, and limited to the US and Canada.

The RS60 is indeed 1960 models worldwide.

You will quickly do the 2000 miles, you can push it a little more but gradually through the break in. I would say < 500 miles 4200rpm , 500 - 1000 miles 5200rpm, 1000 - 2000 miles 6200rpm and after that gloves off.

Also make sure you warm up the engine before any hard acceleration and no labouring at low revs in high gears.

This is probably a better break in schedule as in increases the rev range gradually not just 4200rpm then Max.
