Oil change intervals?
Oil change intervals?
when i bought my boxster, it had JUST turned 30k miles and they had done an oil change on it... well, i've now since put 6500 miles on it and was double checking my maintenance info because i had thought i read 7500 miles between changes... well i get online and find that it's 15,000 between oil changes?! is that right?! the car is pre-certified and i want to take teh best care of it (without doing unnecessary things) and of course want my warranty to be in tact... so 15k miles between changes is correct?
For the 986 Boxster, the interval initially was 15K, but they then backed it off to 12K. 05-07 Boxsters had intervals of 20K, but in 08, they moved it back to 12K as well.

Great info, Thanks!
Keep in mind that while the oil may last 10-12k miles (or longer), the filter may not so always use a high quality filter.

Do you mean the factory Porsche filter or aftermarkets ones?
I use Mobil 1 oil filters, which are highly rated and besides, Porsche uses Mobil 1 oil as the factory fill so I figure I cannot go wrong. I even use Mobil 1 filters on my motorcycle (Honda Super Blackbird). However, I am not sure who makes the factory filter although I bet it is a top name maker. Regardless, oil will hold up longer that the filter and needless to say, one should always change the filter when changing the oil.
It seems most people have their own thoughts on when to change oil, what kind to use, etc. But I think you'll be ok with your plan; however, if you are just driving on the street I'd just do it all every 10k miles, or 1 year, whichever comes first, and skip the 5k change.
Can anyone confirm if these tools will work for the 987 and if they are necessary? Sorry for a newbie question. I'm planning to do my first change after the DE at the end of the month.
