boxster s problems

Hi,
not sure if this is the correct thread, however I have problems with my 2001 Boxster S. I struggle intermittently to put it into 2nd gear, as there is sometimes a crunch, and it pops out of 2nd. i have, at times, found it easier to go from 1st to 3rd to stop this problem, but as you can understand, this cannot continue.
Anyone else having this problem, and what can be done about it?

thanks in advance

Paully28

I'm no expert, but it sounds like syncro issue and/or shift linkage...sounds like a trip to the shop is warranted.

Gearbox woes

Hi...Sorry to hear about your problem. I have had the exact same scenario,
sometimes it goes into second no problem- and then it would kinda go in, and then pop out, i visited the porsche dealer, and after road testing, it was decided to drop the engine/ box. a new porsche rebuilt tranny was fitted, they concluded that to strip the box and do a rebuild with the 'expensive' porsche parts was going to cost more !!!

Hope this helps..

Anything change in the shifter linkage? If it gets out of "proper alignment" you will experience difficulty in engaging the gear and it will pop out of engagement since it wasn't fully engaged to begin with. Typical problem for those that replace the factory shifter with a SSK and don't adjust the setup correctly.

On the trans there are clips that come loose and can cause different issues. I would check there first. The clips are right on the side of the trans and they hold the shift cables there should be two there.

This is very common and is something that we can help you with if you would like.

These are not the easiest gearboxes to work on so be selective as to who you trust to do this work, but I would be happy to help if you want to give me a call.

Hope this helps,

Looks like he lives in England. He'd have to drive pretty far to get it to your shop.

HEhehehe,

I should have realized that.

You can always send it to me if you like, we send stuff out all the time. Kind of pricey though.

Sounds like worn synchros/new tranny. Seek a trusted Porsche mechanic near you and have them evaluate it to find or rule out a simple fix.
