(987) Boxster S vs. Cayman S
My wife has been gone since Thursday morning visiting friends/family over the Easter weekend, or else I would have pics. for you sooner. I will have them ASAP.
As for the hardtop, no it's not the Zeintop...hers is a genuine Porsche 986 hardtop. Looks just like this for the 987:

Here's one for the 986, just like my wife's:

Look like they are both the same, or at least similar, for the 986/987. As for ease of removing, it takes two people and storage is a PITA.

To each his own, bud, but why would you want to make a Boxster look like a Cayman? It's a Boxster and cool enough in it's own right...they are both cool cars, not one better than the other. Take pride in your Boxster!

Zeintop looks great but I heard it takes a lot of adjustments for it to fit right.
I'd imagine once you have it on you don't want to take it off since you have to readjust everything for the soft top to fit again.
And the problem with the zeintop just like any hardtop on a convertible it will sqeak and rattle like hell.

You're coming from a real monster of a Z. I've always loved the old 300zxs.
That being said, you will find the Boxster and Cayman S both a bit underpowered. They will both make up for it in handling, which is terrific for a bone stock car, but I think you will need some modding and maybe an engine swap to be truly happy. If that's the case, Cayman is a lot easier to mod. The Boxster's top storage limits things somewhat.
I purchased my Boxster before the Cayman came out. Even if the Cayman existed when I bought my Boxster, I still would have gotten a Boxster. The ability to open up the ****pit to the sky while having that exhaust note behind you is therapudic to me.
I recently drove a new Boxster with the PDK. Completely different car. Suspension is much tighter, you feel a little more power, but the suspension blew me away. I'm not sure if the new Cayman went through this much re-work, but it's worth checking out.
Tell us what you end up getting!

For sure Samir! I full expect that there will be a HUGE power difference between the Z32TT and either of the vehicles in question. With that said, I've had my fun with all out power. It's time for something more... how to say it... "classy". I'm not saying that the Z is a bad car, I love it! It is however time to move on. I was looking into another Japanese car originally but then I thought, hmm... do I want to buy another "import" and drop 25k into it or do I want to buy an "almost" done car. Like I said previously, I've track raced (roadcourse) for about 4 years now and love cars that corner amazingly well with still decent power. I'd look at a S2000 but my brother has one and I dont want to make him think im copying him. My wife LOVES the Boxsters so I figured why not. I guess it helps that I have been a long time Porsche fan too.
When I actually make the purchase, I'll post pictures of the new toy!

You'll find that either one of these Porsche offerings will amaze you with their ability to corner and still have ample power. That's what got me about my Boxster--not only can I open the ****pit to the sky, I'm still taking corners so fast that people hardly get a chance to see what car it was. I actually have "4CURVS" as my license plate.
And it comes easy too. These cars lend themselves to making a normal driver good, a better driver exceptional, and an experienced driver the ultimate. I surprise myself with how fast I'm taking corners without even thinking about it. I have to plan apexes and weight distribution when I enter a corner at the same speeds on my other cars. (Granted, my daily driven cars aren't designed for such driving, but they're not stock either.)
If you love the s2k, the Boxster is a step up from that. The Cayman is seems to be even a step up from the Boxster judging from what I've learned on this forum. (I've never driven a Cayman.) Either way, I don't think you'll lose.

I have the RS 60 and find it quite civilized when driven easy. It is fairly quiet and rides well.
Put it into sport mode and run the engine past 4K and a whole new world opens up. In the turns I have not driven anything, and I have driven a lot of cars, which give more feel and satisfaction. Just a great fun....... car.
My wife also likes it.

Here's a link to another thread on 6speed in which a Cayman with the RS350 may be for sale:

Drive both and decide... I was unsure, it took a few test drives but I definitely "felt it" in the little croc. Tough on the bumps, sweet ride & sound, it was just for me. You'll know. (Of course, I recommend the cayman)
