How much would it cost?

How much would it cost to drop a 3.4 996 911 engine into a
986 boxster?

I am also wondering which model year platform would work best for a 3.4 or 3.6 transplant? Egas or non Egas model? I know there are a lot of threads out there but a simple list of which engine would swap easiest with which model year would really help. As of right now I am deciding between swapping a 3.4L into my 97 2.5L or perhaps upgrading to a higher mileage 01 Boxster S and upgrading "if" the engine fails.

RUF is great but really expensive and out of reach for the average Joe. Competent mechanics and shops can do it for much less $$$'s.

FVD and Sportec both do engine conversions. $27k will get you a 3.8L Boxster S. I recall a step-by-step guide on Renntech or Rennlist on doing such conversion yourself.

PRetty sure Tony at Precision Porsche has done a few of these. 310-320-0007. He's very realistically priced.
Tell him his buddy Nick from Ventura sent you. Tony's located in LA.

Since you're located in NY, I'd check with Farnbacher Loles up in CT. I think it would run you in the $15k range, but don't quote me.
