New Boxster v. old 911

I need to replace my wife's 1997 Boxster/Tip. A new one is $57k, and a 2006 911 C4 cab/tip/20k miles is the same price. She would be happy either way. Any input?

I'd get a 09 if you can, brand new engine, more fuel efficient and with PDK it's quicker than that tip.

Get the 2006 911. Boxsters are so slow.

I'd look for a 2008 Boxster S - lots of great deals on them around, and I would certainly not consider them slow.

The 911 has more snob appeal. The Boxster is a better car. The 911 will hold its value much better and since its used the original owner took most of the depreciation hit for you. It depends on what's important to you and your wife:
If performance is most important get the Boxster.
If money is most important get the 911
If impressing others is most important get the 911
If the top-down motoring experience is most important get the Boxster
If getting the color and options you want is most important get the Boxster
If you can't live without a certain new option (like cooled seats or PDK) is most important get the Boxster
If a warranty and the piece of mind of having a new car without someone else's troubles is most important get the Boxster.

Whatever you get be happy with your choice, enjoy it and thank you're lucky stars that you can afford a Porsche.

I would think your wife has some preferences. Evidently you've decided on a convertible. However: New vs. used? One year of warranty versus four? Back seat vs. none? Two trunks vs. one? Tip vs PDK? AWD vs. 2WD? Have the two of you driven each car and discussed your impressions? My wife has an 08 Boxster S and I have an 09 C2S Cab, but neither are DD. They are both wonderful cars with unique qualities. There is no right or wrong. However, after 20 years of marriage, I have determined that even though my wife states that she has no preference, in fact, that should not always be taken at face value.

You have to realize you (I'm guess your wife's) have a 2000 Boxster S, which is 250hp. The 2009 Boxster base is 255hp.

The new boxster is way way faster than all previous models, check the review below.

http://www.roadandtrack.com/article....rticle_id=8087

"In Launch Control mode, the Boxster S lunges to 60 mph in just 4.1 seconds and sizzles to a 12.6 quarter mile. That's a match for the modern 911 Carrera S, or leafing through the yellowing pages of past R&T issues, the legendary twin-turbo 959. Also consider that this year's base Boxster ekes 255 bhp out of its 2.9 liters, 5 bhp more than the original Boxster S of 2000."
