Lightweight flywheels ?

Would like to hear opinions on which is the most popular LW flywheel.

Durability
Performance
Has anyone combined Sprint B. with a LWFW?
Last but not least.... least amount of noise, vibration...

Looking foward for those interesting opinions and experiences.

Jose

from my very old drag racing days....high torque motors can use a light flywheel.....a low torque po needs mass to come off the line

So you understand that a Cayman S is a low torque vehicle?

hey jose... we do them all the time. Ran it on the SharkWerks RS350 Cayman S and all the journalists loved it. Totally changes the character of the car and becomes more fun. You can more easily rev-match and she's more hyper-sensitive etc.. There's better acceleration in lower gears too. Check the GT3 vs GT3RS Mk1 for the difference it can make 0-60. Because it uses the Audi transmission there's actually minimal transmission noise/sizzle. You can barely hear it compared to a 996TT or something of that sort.

Here's a video:

+1 to that. I have the Sharkwerks RS350 kit and love my flywheel.

I can't hear any flywheel/tranny chatter at all, but the exhaust is certianly louder then stock.

Sharkster,

Greatly appreciate your information. My car has that same package from Evolution and it has been working very nice. We have already done 12's on the 1/4 mile and I think that the flywheel can be an asset to my Cayman. Now... if the car gets any louder I might get in trouble as there is no Cat on it!!! Lol... Anyways is not my everyday!

Hi Jose, my pleasure and that's great to hear on the 12 second 1/4 mile The flywheel should have a couple of tenths or more. I know it does on the GT3 If you have no cats your car is going to be loud and you won't hear any transmission noise that's for sure

I just had my engine rebuilt to a 3.6 high torque spec by flat6innovations. I have a single mass lightweight flywheel, although I'm not sure which one Jake used. It has remarkable torque and throttle response. I have less than 2500 miles right now so I haven't done anything over 5k rpms until after my breakin oil is changed at that 2500 mile mark. The only downside is chatter at idle. It is very noisy, but once underway the sweet sound of the intake is all I can hear. The flywheel quietens down as well. I'm not sure why the noise at idle, but I have decided to keep the noise and the performance rather than going back to the dual mass. I am more than satisfied with the performance.
