Boxster is ugly
to you.. to many it looks great.

I've had 2 Boxster S.. and would go back to one in the future, perhaps the Cayman.

Raja, your S2000 was sweet man.. and I know you'll love the test drive of a Boxster.. it is on another level. Many tests pick it as a sweet drive even over 997s and C6s.

You are lying to yourself. Boxster is ugly, either that or you have no taste. The handling is decent, but does not make up for the lack of power.
First off, styling is subjective. You may not like it, but there's no accounting for taste, and you've no business telling someone they have none simply because theirs differs from yours. Some people prefer a 356, while I prefer a 550. Some prefer a boxster back end, some a 911. Each style, old or new is enjoyed by an appreciative enthusiast, and being a "car guy", it shows bad spirit to trash another's car or taste.

Second, the mid engine design is used to great effect in the CGT, and it's no surprise. With engine placement fore of the rear axle, the suspension can be tuned for handling without the handicap of carrying a motor hanging aft of the axle. That's why 911's must be so stiffly sprung in the rear, and also why it's such a challenge to increase damper and spring rates for performance without inducing jittery handling with minimal compliance. A mid-engine car allows more suspension tuning options, and with equal power, a mid-engine car like the Boxster will outhandle a rear-engine car, period. And, Nick, if you're not already aware, Porsche is about to introduce another mid-engined car and will be pursuing a new spec racing series specific to the model. Porsche sees a huge future in mid-engine design, has since the 50's, and they might know a little more than any of us about performance engineering.

Serious driving enthusiasts appreciate the Boxster's incredible handling, and those that haven't experienced it due to image-conscious motives are missing out. By the way, visit a track sometime and see Boxsters smoking many 911's, even giving up significant power comparitively. Nick, you think the Boxster's underpowered? Go to a high speed track and race against one in a 911, and then see what you think.

One last thing. Anyone who still holds out contempt for the Boxster and mid-engine cars, feel free to show up to Willow Springs for a POC track weekend, and watch the original "poor man's Porsche"--the 914, embarrass many 911s.

The Boxster is a winner.

Very nicely put Super D!
Many close minded people miss out on great cars because of their arrogant views and concern for their macho image.

True. Even more so, people who don't really have serious driving experience in sports cars...

heh, just saw this thread again...
funny example.
I was talking to a Boxster S owner at an after prom-party (the father of my date's friend- the owner of the house). He had a decent 01 Boxster S... after some talk about the new 997 I asked him if he had ever had a drive in a GT2 or a modded Turbo. He said "What's a GT2".

Funny how people get attracted to it for different reasons. Also kinda nice that the entry level P-cars are nothing to sneeze at performance-wise.

he is very happy with it- doesn't plan on getting rid of it because of this.
It's not like he can't afford it... he has 5 other cars.
He also had a very very cool MGB, Red with black stripes- he prefers that over the boxster.
I recall Eric (The Plug Guy) and his Boxster S- i really enjoyed that one- def. not something to sneeze over.

Agreed. There are so many great performing cars out there, and you just have to give yourself a chance to experience them I think. You might end up enjoying something you wouldn't expect and it changes your outlook.

Also, I think it'd be a good idea if racing school was mandatory with sportscar purchases; it'd lead to better control of the car (safety) and also better ability to exploit the performance capability inherent in the car's design (enjoyment). Just my $.02.

i agree. there shoudl be class of license and with each class you can get a more performance car. And for each license class you would have to take a test.

I know in Germany it's a lot harder to get license than in usa.

It's really a big deal, getting a driver's license in Germany...

Check this out

The point you made is actually really smart! Race sanctioning bodies require training and sign-offs to get provisional and full racing licenses, yet any Joe Blow can buy a sports car with most of the capability of a race car without any special skills, training or requirements. Perhaps that's why sometimes it's so hard to find a second-hand sports car without a "story" behind it.

I think many people refer to the Boxster as fake due the price it has for the Hp offered. Now days there are tons of Cars making almost or more HP for half the price. Now if you look just at HP numbers you would think is fake, but it's all about the package.
Interior design, Handling and the small details that make the car a beautiful piece of machinery. Heritage is one great part of it.
If GOD permits that will be my next car.
