986s/996 lsd?

Does 986s/996 have LSD? If not, what exactly is the situation? Any changes with 987/997?

Guess I was lucky. I just bought a 00 Boxster S with very few options. But, it did come with traction control and a LSD (option 222 and 224) and the hardtop.

The 986S was rarely spec'd with an LSD from the factory. And moving to the 987 chassis didn't really change that. 95% or more of all Porsches ever sold didn't come with an LSD installed in them.

We've got factory LSDs that we've refurbished if you want to upgrade your gearbox. It's way less than a new LSD and is just as good performancewise as a Porsche motorsports LSD.

I've read elsewhere that the 986 had an option for ABD (active braking differential), but not actual LSD... does this fall in line with what you guys are talking about? And am I correct in saying that the 986s and 996 used the same tranny, therefore no LSD on 996 either?

986s ABD vs true LSD

Still wondering if true LSD was really offered, or if we're talking about ABD. GT, when you say you have factory LSD, do you mean ABD components?

Hello,

There's no ABD for the 986 Boxster nor the 996 Carrera to my knowledge. The 986S Boxster was not offered with an LSD, though the 996 Carrera was. And since they are in essence the same gearbox but with the ring and pinion on the other side, anything that you can do to a 996 gearbox you can do to the G86-20 in the Boxster S.

The LSDs I have are factory OEM LSDs that were offered in other vehicles. Because we are a manufacturer of high performance motorsports LSDs, on occasion, a customer who is building a racecar will take out the factory LSD and replace it with our unit. In most of those instances we purchase the stock LSD and rebuild it to our specs.

If you want more details on exactly how we configure them or what the options are I suggest you head over to the GT2/GT3 forum and find a thread titled "LSD Buster". It's 16 pages long, but well worth the read.

Harry,
I got your email. I'll be in touch shortly.

Regards,

Matt Monson

Jaydoggster,

I was wrong. I don't have a LSD. Code 224 is for the ABD.

Good day, I have a 2001 BoxsterS and do regular track days. Keen to hear your pricing and specs on your LSD if you still sell them. Cheers
