Forced Induction for 987

Does anyone have forced induction on their Boxster/Cayman in the form of a turbo or supercharger and can relate their experience with the installation and driving transformation?

Please give us an idea of pricing and any mods required to make the installation a success with your answer. We'd be interested in any problems with the installation as well.

Thanks

I have a low pressure turbo on my Boxster done by TPC and it runs great. Had no problems with installation as TPC completed the install and knock on wood, over 3 months later and everything runs like it came from factory. It runs low boost (4 psi) which doesnt add much added stress to the motor. If you are looking to add a turbo don't hesitate to call TPC. There is also another thread in this forum from IMA motorsport that is working on a twin turbo for the 987 that looks pretty interesting.

Thanks for the info. Did you go for the water-to-air intercooler and when in the RPM range do you see boost? Do you sense any turbo lag or does it feel pretty much like before just with a lot more power?

The IMA set-up is supposed to improve on low-end boost and eliminate lag, which is why all the questions, with their variable twin turbo set-up but I wonder if they are going to get the fuel map done as well as TPC.

Years ago I had a Twin Turbo Nissan 300ZX that was making crazy power and I got a boost controller from Mike at TPC to control it. There was a problem with the first device and the one he replaced it with arrived with lots of scratches--it was obviously used. Kind of left a bad taste in my mouth about his ethics.

I have the 2.7L Boxster which unfortunately doesn't have a hole in the middle of the front bumper which is needed to mount the center radiator and intercooler, so I had to opt for the low pressure system, but can upgrade to the intercooled system if I change my front bumper. My car had a baseline dyno of 214whp and 180wtq and with the low pressure system it brought the car to around 300whp and 235wtq. I see boost at about high 3-low 4k RPM and the car feels just like it had before with just alot more power, no turbo lag at all.

The IMA setup definitely looks pretty interesting. Personally, I opted for TPC because they had so much experience already installing their turbo's and haven't really come across any type of major problems besides for one case that occurred overseas. I guess we'll see how the IMA turbo setup turns out.

I'm surprised to hear that about Mike, their customer service was absolutely outstanding during my entire experience with them. If you decide to go with TPC, I'd advise you to talk to Tom Chan, as he helped me throughout the entire process.
