Considering a lightly used Cayman S with custom exhaust, bad idea?

So the car is an 06 Cayman S, with less than 20k miles on it. It's being sold by a dealer and is CPO'd. The exhaust is just the cat back according to the dealer, and it's a Tubi exhaust. Frankly I'm not in love with the sound, it sounds a bit too deep, and I hesitate to use the word "drone", because I don't have a lot of experience listening to custom exhausts, however I felt that on the highway when accelerating, the car did have too deep of a sound. It wasn't awful, like a Honda Civic, at least not that I could tell from within the car, however when I drove it back to back with a stock Cayman S, I preferred the stock configuration.

Aside from my tastes, are there any reasons I should be concerned with this car? I was surprised that they'd CPO the car with a Tubi, but I gather because it's cat backs only, that it doesn't void the configuration. I've asked them to write a letter stating the car was CPO'd with the Tubi in it at the time of purchase, and I've also asked for a DME scan. I have a deposit and a hold on the car while I figure this out, so I'd appreciate any advice from the experts here, sorry for the short notice.

Don't over-think your decision. If you like the car, buy it. If you don't like the Tubi exhaust, unbolt it and find a stock Cay S takeoff exhaust. You could probably find one for $200. Certainly not a deal breaker. Now if the previous owner had hand painted a pink mermaid across the hood... run!

Thanks for the advice. Does this mean that generally there's not likely to be any performance hit from an improperly installed catback Tubi?

Nope. If it was a hack job install the car would not be CPO.

I'm sure you can sell or swap the Tubi exhaust with someone with a factory unit. Tubi is a reputable brand (Champion Motorsport sells them) and relatively expensive aftermarket unit. If that's the only thing that's keeping you from the car.... you should have no problem selling/swapping with someone. G' luck.

If your near FL I have no problem swapping my stock exhaust for your Tubi and will pay for your installation. A aftermarket exhaust is nothing to be concerned about especially a Tubi they make great stuff. Buy that bad boy !

+1. Only thing that I'd be careful about is any other mods that could possibly been switched back to OEM parts. But then, it wouldn't have been CPOed if there was something wrong.

make sure to check out the engine bay for anything odd. An exhaust is a simple bolt on mod and shouldn't cause concern. As others have said, make sure there aren't any hacks under the hood.

It's a shame you don't care for the Tubi; it's a highly sought after exhaust. I have one, love it. But it is certainly louder than stock (it's also much lighter).

You should have no trouble selling it. And my Porsche dealer installed my Tubi; they'll stand by it.

The tubi exhaust is a quality piece. If you don't like it, you can swap it out pretty easily. I would trade my stock exhaust for the tubi for sure.
