GT3 engine in my boxster

First of all, hi guys; its been over a year now that im looking at this forum and i finally decided to register. I plan to buy a 98 boxster and put a GT3 engine and tranny in it from a salvage gt3...is that doable? Appreciate you knowledge guys, and from the specs if my project is any doable this will probably be one hell of a 11 sec missile!!!

Oh yes, it can be done. 3 things you will need to do this project. Time, a shop to install all the parts, and lastlty and most important ........ $$$$$$$$$$$$$$

I've been looking at a number of options to improve my Boxster S HP. From a 3.6l upgrade to a biturbo option to a Supercharger. The caviat in all three appears to be compression and reutilizing the intake. I can send you some links if you'd like.

desmo,
you would need to do major metalwork in thew engine bay as the gt3 engine has different dimensions than the boxter/996/997 motors.

Ok...thanks for the input, as ive looked at it it would financially be a lot better, easier, cheeper to put a 3.6 325hp engine and transmission and be a hell of a car, and reliable too; anybody have put a 3.6 in a boxcar? thanks
have a great day

desmo, I have a 3.4 996 engine with headers, intake and ecu in a 97 boxster(lightest possible host). The car is a gas to drive, very fast, light and easy. Very fine handling car. I do love hp though and have given some thought to sc'er or turbo charging. I have not found the shop that suits me to do this though and have been too busy modding my other car anyway. I did see a cup motor for sale and was told it would fit. I think to sc my car the intercooler will have to go in the trunk and I do really like having two trunks in such a small car. Makes it very useful so for now am just enjoying the car as is.

you'll have to remove the folding top, as the larger intake manifold of the GT3 engine will need that space . . . or you can make a custom intake manifold.

apparently some shop in socal did this swap on this car . . . 986 GT3

i got in touch with the owner, but he amazingly knew absolutely nothing about the engine swap. well, maybe that's not so amazing considering the car itself. he said to call Wilson's Machine Shop, but i never got around to bugging them about the details regarding, well, everything . . . dry sump, tranny, shifting mechanism, ecu, manifold clearance, etc.

best of luck on this project, i'd love to see a boxster with dry sump and no RMS problems.
