Limp mode

I have a 97 boxster. My car is going into the limp mode under different operating modes. I have had the transmission serviced (new filter, fluid) recently. After looking at different postings on other sites, i cannot seem to find a good solid answer. I even paid the ask porsche guy expert (not much expert info there). One of my first guesses was water getting to the transmission brain. I covered it with a ziplock bag and remounted. Still limping. A week ago my water pump disintergrated and had that changed. I thought maybe that at one point the cooler was not working. Still not 100% sure on that. I have all new antifreeze, thermostat, etc. A few days ago the drains on the cowl plugged and got into the brake booster. Brakes would go down but not come back up. While driving to the mech, it went into limp mode again. Just got it back and its going into the limp mode still. If i stop the car, turn off the engine, the limp mode resets and the tranny works ok for a while. I put my can on it and cleared the error codes that way too. Some of my symptoms are: Tranny feels as though it is slipping (like a neutal position) then graps hold, shifts, and does it again before going into limp mode. At normal driving it goes into limp mode. After driving at high speeds for a short time. I have one guy who wants to swap out the tranney for 3 grand or so. Not sure if that is the way to go. I guess as a last resort, i will go to the porsche dealer and pay dearly. Any suggestions before i do. (i wish i had kept my 77 911 with a clutch.)
