Im not going to have engine problems right? 2011 spyder

Ive read so many contradicting posts on here and other forums... with the 987.2 cars, I should n ot have any issues using a R compund tire and high G cornering (track days and autoX)? I know some older boxsters and caymans had issues, I know my car is not a dry sump like the Gt3... but if I switch to say...hossier R6's, I should be ok right? if not, is there a preventative measure?

I would think reaching out to a tuner with experience in tracking Caymans may be your best bet here.
Interesting question. I'm in for responses!

iirc some folks lost engines on r tires. i think the trick is accu sump or a company that extends the sump [its a kit] . i cant really recall the name and it will/can void your warranty. sorry for the lack of memory......old people

you may want to check about ANY mods and what the dealer will say first.

You could ask the guys at Napleton. They have been racing Caymans for a while now.

I haven't heard of any oiling related issues on the second gens.

that is a good thread... seems there are no oil issues then with the 987.2's... maybe some trans cooling issues but otherwise seems ok... thats a relief...in the manual is makes mention of not using "racing tires"... I may just end up using the yoko advan ad08's... a middle ground from the potenzas now and hoosiers

thanks for that scottschoe!

PNug is infamous around these parts
The other issue separate from the oil on the 987.1 was the rod bolts. Not sure if they address this in the 2nd gen engine. They can stretch and cause a rod bearing to spin.

Not a very common thing to happen for the average car being tracked and I have not heard of anyone with a 2nd gen car with this problem. Would be interesting to check the part number for the rods and bolt to see if there's a difference.

No issues tracking with your nt01's? I'm guessing our cars are more or less the same...

I really want Hoosier r6's and put on Oz ultraleggeras ...

From the sound of it, there isn't much issues tracking the 987.2's

I drove a but aggressive the other day, fan came on after I left the car.. Normal right? My evo's and Gtr didn't do that or anything I've had recently

That's normal. If the car isn't at speed where it draws enough air to cool it the fan kicks on.
