mink oil question

i posted in detailing also. car is an 09 cayman with 12k and base interior. i bought new but never did anything to the seats. it looks like its wearing where i sit but it may just need cleaning. is mink oil okay ? the manual said to go to the dealer for their products. d/s door panel seems to have wear on it too. tanks

I'd be scared of mink oil... I use Lexol (sp??) stuff is good... I think oil based product would stain the leather.

I use mink oil on my brown baseball gloves, it softens & renews the leather but it darkens it alot & stays that way along time.

look for a product called leatherique (sp?) Its a two part system that takes a while to do but is well worth it! I did my interior with the Leatherique after i had cleaned it with lexol....lets just say I had a bucket of nasty brown water from the extra dirt that Lexol does not get. Its not sticky and does a great job hydrating the leather for a good 6 months or so. Just a wet rag in between treatments and you are good to go!

you can get it many places but this is their website http://www.leatherique.com/

tried the lexol and no dirt coming up. i think it is wear because the spot feels rough compared to the rest of the seat. i weigh about 195 and wear clean clothes. i guess its off to the dealer and see what they have to say. the seats on my corvettes never went like this

What he said....I use Lexol as a stopgap between leatherique applications...leatherique is a deep clean and conditioner.

Mink Oil is not a cleaner/restorer. It is a moisturizer and will change the appearance where applied - and it's an oil. Because different leathers are finished and dyed differently, I would consult an upholstery shop for advice.

I have been looking at various products for the leather in my car and the leatherique web site was very informative. They make a claim about softening the leather. Can anyone share their experience with that? I feel like the leather on my seats is rather stiff and I wish it would "relax" a little. Thanks for any advice.

I use Leatherique in my BMW and have to say it works quite well. It did soften the leather in my car a bit, it was noticeable but not a night and day difference.
