Test Drove 981 at Mosport Race Track

So the good folks at Pfaff Porsche were kind enough to put on this test drive event at Mosport today. With two instructors from Porsche Canada, 8 new 981 Boxsters and a track + skidpad, we got a fun introduction to the car.

I'm not going to write a long-winded review. Suffice it to say the car is amazing.

Few key things:

1) The steering is a non-issue. I tried it back to back with my Cayman and could not feel a difference. If you can, you're a better man than me.

2) Pictures don't do the car justice. I'll go so far to say it doesn't photograph well. Just by moving up or down slightly you can get a totally different impression of it.

3) The stock exhaust is plenty loud.

Also, Launch Control is awesome. On a side note, I drove the 997.2 Turbo S with launch control at a track event last fall and the instructor laughed when I asked him about the durability of it. He said they'd run a diagnostic on that car and after travelling around the world to different Porsche events it had been launched 14,000 times without damage.

I love the Boxster so much I'm going to buy the hardtop version (Cayman) this fall. Done and done.

STOP it already.... you’re killing me.

I have to say this though. Out of all the pics I’ve seen, those look the most real. You’re right, looks like pics won’t do it justice.

Glad you liked it.

You answered two of my most burning questions

* Steering wheel - awesome
* Stock exhaust - double awesome - PSE option wasn't available when I ordered my Boxster S in early March so I was a little worried that the exhaust might be too quiet. Good to know that it's not .

Thank you for sharing the nice post and pictures.

This is the Carerra S 20" wheel, right? I've got them on order but I'll powder coat them black. (unless I find something I like better... easier said than done)

Thanks,

Mark

I just checked my info. It's the Porsche World Roadshow and is scheduled throughout the country over the next several months. I received an email invitation directly from Porsche North America to attend at the Monticello Motor Club in New York. Here's a link:

Was there

I was there also at Mosport in the morning session. Had a great time on track. Will be ordering my Boxster soon for delivery in spring 2013 .

I think the lighter colour interiors suit the boxster better. They really show off the sculpted doors well. The Mahogany example you posted pics of looks great but not for me.

Were all the cars we drove with the standard exhaust? I forgot to ask the reps. I only know that they were all S's with PDK and some had leather interiors while some did not.

Yup they were all standard exhausts. I heard their doing October builds for 2013 delivery. That's why I'm getting on the Cayman waiting list now.

Anyone else think it was a Freudian slip that hawc spelled expensive with ***** in the middle??

Those wheels look much better in person but I'm still trying to find something else.

Thanks for all the great pics.

Okay, the fact that I even recognized that scares myself...

Nah, I'm just a spelling ****...
