Boxster 981 Bucket Seats?!

Hey,

I'm new here. I already ordered my boxster S, but the dealer says I have till September to change my options. So I've been playing with the website configurator, and I'm witnessing today some new things coming out, like the Bucket Seats below! Any thoughts?

Yeah and what's up with the sale person having access to the exclusive features on the configurator while we don't? I was thinking of getting the Red interior with White stitching, thoughts?

Peace.

Bucket seats are a must for the track. Takes used to getting in & out of. I'd say they're excellent for even street cars.

I don't know what the conversion is, but to fit them in after the fact would be $6,500-14,000 USD currently. So if they're relatively cheap, get them. You can even sell them later if you change your mind. No heated seats (not applicable to you, it seems) or seat ventilation though.

It will be a daily driver so the need for bucket is not established. I think they look great though! I don't know how convenient getting in n out of those will be.

Is anybody getting orange interior btw?

It's not as easy as in sport seats. It'll definitely take getting used to. If this sort of thing bothers you, you may discover that it's a pain.

Welcome to the forum and congratulations on your upcoming 981. First of all, life its unfair - always has been! Sometimes sales persons might have information but may not share it to avoid an order cancellation or postponement of their anticipated commissions! Porsche AG themselves, aside your your salesman, doesn't want to announce these future options too far in advance because you will postpone you order and the dealers will yell and scream bloody murder! So that is what's up with that!

Here is a list of what is coming soon that is not yet available in some markets (like US) right now: Sport Bucket Seats*, leather wrapped steering wheel column, leather door sills, leather visors, lighted door entry, intelligent radar-controlled cruise control, alcantara options, additional deviating stitching colors, etc. I am doing a thread on this forum that will talk about these and other options coming soon to the computer order guide at the dealer nearest you! See you there...and Peace to you too, brother!

You are not originally from the Haight-Ashbury in San Francisco by any chance!

Saludos,
Eduardo

*Already available in 991 in some markets.

Have you tought about adding your own Carbon Fiber seats later? Porsche add-ons are so expensive! Plus you would save some serious weight over OEM (50+ lbs.).

Yeah, they had a set in the showroom and I sat in them... they're fantastic once you're in.

I almost waited to order just so I could order a set but honestly, I don't think they'd be good for a daily driver. The bolster would get worn out in no time sliding in and out.

I had a set of Recaro seats in my JCW and had to be extra careful getting in and out so I wouldn't wear it out.

Comfortable as hell though...

Lol... Yeah.. I paid out the nose to put those in after the fact..$9k
I had sport seats for a few months... They work fine.. I tracked in them as well.. They were fine.. But Noooooo.. I had to have the buckets...
If your small to medium and agile and don't mind the technique required to launch yourself out of them .. Do it..
But for a daily driver.. If your gettin in and out several times a day.. It's a pain in the ***.. Once your in there awesome... Would I do it again.. I'm a gluten for punishment and make stupid decisions multiple times before learning.. Just ask one of my attorneys.. Kidding...

Gotta say my buckets are the most comfortable seats I've (and my Wife) every sat in. Did a roadtrip for 9 days this spring; Wife was anxious but noted after a four hour ride that she had no back pain (versus fully adjustable Audi and BMW's we also run). After the trip she agree that the seats made the drive great. Yeah the in/out requires some getting use to but for a long ride there is nothing to complain about. And they look great as well. Note that larger frame owners won't see this the same. " medium and agile " go for them. Mine have +20k on them with no sign of wear.

Hi Saludos, thanks for the wishes! Nope I'm originally from Kuwait, but I reside in Dubai. I have serious identity issues so don't even try grounding me to geography!

But yeah, all the list of options you mentioned are currently available in the Dubai Market. I have about a month to change my options, is there anything 'big' coming? like a new exterior/interior color? Or new rims?
I'm going for a White/Red combo, but I'm really leaning towards the Amber too, the deviating stitching against the Grey does it for me.

What the reference made in "Haight-Ashbury in San Francisco"? I'm curious.

I've always been a fan of weight reduction, but I've always restricted the idea to removing the spare, and going on a diet myself!

I really don't want to go aftermarket with this one. I don't know. Do you recommend some aftermarket company though?

I was really under the impression that comfort is the compromise of weight reduction. Are you saying the bucket seats are MORE comfortable than the Sport Plus seats once you're in and driving? Do you adjust the positioning manually?

The only issue with ordering the buckets with the idea of getting rid of them down the road if you find them uncomfortable is this... It's likely that it won't be tough to source replacement seats (provided the interior color isn't too uncommon (i.e. orange will be tougher to find than black)), but the car won't be wired for heated and ventilated seats. These are two options that would be beneficial in a drop-top.

For me, the sport bucket seats are the most comfortable that Porsche makes. The sport seats are second, and the 'comfort' seats the most uncomfortable.

Once you learn the technique for ingress and egress, it becomes second nature. The bolsters will not suffer any more wear than the bolsters on the sport seats - unless you don't know how to get in and out of the seat. Try them first if possible. Those with a wide bottom may not like the sport buckets.

MetalTear: Greetings from Colorado!

I went to your Porsche website for Dubai.
http://www.porsche.com/middle-east/_dubai_/
and found only three of those future US options I mentioned already available in Dubai, but not the rest! This is what I saw: sport buckets, steering column casing in leather and deviating stitching on sport design wheel! Here is what I didn't see: leather door sills, leather visors, lighted door entry, diverse alcantara options, additional deviated stitching colors for interior leather panels other than sport design steering wheel, and finally, intelligent cruise control! Could you point to me where I can find them in your home country configurator?

Re: 'Haight-Asbury'. The Summer of Peace & Love in 1968. Made that section of San Francisco famous. Scott McKenzie's song. It was the era when the saying 'Peace' was popular in the youth scene here in America. I was a freshman that year in College in Philadelphia. I thought you were an American ex-pat in Dubai that was still caught in that time warp. Hope that explains it.

Peace & Love,
Eduardo
