Boxster will be discontinued?
Boxster will be discontinued?
I was speaking to one of the Primer dealership Manager. He told me that, soon Boxster name will be changed. It will be a 4 cylinder engine.
Any one heard about this? Is this true?

This is necessary to get Porsche's CAFE (Corporate Average Fuel Economy) numbers where they have to be for the future.
I do not know if the Boxster (or Cayman) will have a 6-cylinder engine available as an (extra cost) option.
The 996 models I think will still retain the 6-cylinder engine but it will be smaller in displacement and turbo-charged to keep the HP up where it needs to be.
The Boxster name is derived from the flat cylinder layout of the engine and the fact the car's a roadster. The rumored 4-cylinder engines are a flat cylinder layout and probably very close to the current 6-cylinder engine with just 2 cylinders lopped off.
The four cylinder turbo charged Boxster and Cayman is not a rumor but a fact. They will be named the 718 Boxster and 718 Cayman. The Boxster Spyder and the Cayman GT4 will simply be know as 718 Spyder and 718 GT4. The current 2016 Boxster's and Cayman's will be the last naturally aspirated engines. It is my understanding that while the displacement of the four cylinder turbos will be lower, the horsepower will be higher than the current 6 cylinder models.
Haven't been paying much -- make that hardly any -- attention to the news about the new Porsche Boxster models but the rumor is -- and it may be more than a rumor -- the new models will be equipped with a 4-cylinder turbo-charged engine.

BTW, all existing allocations for new 981 Boxsters are taken and can't be changed.
