Battery is dead - Car won't start!

Hey guys I'm in need of some help! I have an '05 Boxster that has a dead battery, and has been sitting for a few months. I've tried connecting the positive pin inside the footwell technique using both a portable battery charger, and hooking up some jumper cables to a running car with no success. It allows me to insert and remove my car key, but the hood latch won't open. The last time this happened my car sat for a couple weeks, and I had no problem getting the hood open. I'm guessing because the car has been sitting for a longer length of time, that it has no juice at all.

Any suggestions?

Thank you

You didn't say how long you left the charger connected prior to trying to pop the hood. You may have to leave it on and connected overnight to get the battery juiced up. Have you checked to owner manual to see if there is a mechanical means of popping the frunk?

Do as Pismo suggested and leave the charger on for a good long time (are you sure you were getting a good electrical connection?). It doesn't take much juice to pop the frunk, but if the battery is really flat, it will take much longer to get enough to make it work.

If that doesn't work, as a last resort there is an emergency cable connected to the latch. You have to jack up the right side of the car and remove the right front wheel and then take off the inner fender liner. Then you can feel around the front or the back of the impact beam where the cable is taped to it. It will be between the center of the car and the right end of the impact beam. Just pull.

Many of us on our older Boxsters, when we removed the front bumper cover to clean the radiators, we routed the cable into the tow hook hole and secured it there so that it could be accessed just by removing the tow hook cover in the bumper.

BTW, there is also a cable for the rear trunk on the left side of the rear impact beam.

If you connect the power to the jumper post on the footwell, the trunk should open.

You can charge the battery thru cig lighter.

Next time, keep the car on a tender. It will extend life of the battery
