Boxster Key FOB problems

I have a 2015 Boxster and have recently had problems with the Key FOB. Sometimes the FOB does not work to lock the door after I exit. The LED flashes but no luck. If I sit inside and use the FOB to lock or unlock, it works fine. I get out and try to lock -- no go. I have tried starting the car and even driving it a few feet to get out and try again. But it does not lock. During these moments, the trunks don't open either with the FOB. After driving home it works fine and might continue to do so the next 50 times I am on the road. But then randomly the problem starts again.
I have taken out the FOB battery and it is at 3.1v.
Any suggestions?

No I have not changed the battery in both my keyFOBs. I tested them to 3.1v. The same problem happens with both the keys I have. I shall try with a new battery and get back.

It could also be the first signs of the car's battery beginning to go bad. I just had a battery fail in another car (a VW) and one of the first things I noticed a few days before the battery went completely flat was that the remote opening system would not work sometimes, and also that the car would fail to recognize the battery inside the cabin (push button start).
