Boxsterund914 (Grasshopper),
I've learned through this very "institution" of a website that it is foolish to question an owner's passion for any make, model, and year of car. I've seen Mustang, BMW, and even the occasional Lotus owners come to this sacred ground with weapons ready to defend the love and passion for their vehicle. While they may have been fended off by the shear numbers and force of p-car owners on this site, they still came to battle, axes in hand.
911 owners are an honorable crowd with the history and hundreds of thousands of hours of race time and trophies to defend their passion. I don't anticipate that they will ever lay down their arms. And, they are in our camp.

Dave, it's not whether they lay down their arms or win a trilion races. It is the undeniable truth that the road version of the 911, especially in its older forms, requires driver input that is unconventional, anti-intuitive and, imo, downright dangerous to the average driver who gets a bit too hot into a turn. When the car is made such that engaging more throttle is the answer to entering a turn too quickly, and lifting off creates nearly uncontrollable end-arounds, something is seriously amiss.
Don't start with "Well, Adolph required the damn engine to be aft of the axle" excuse. lol

Brother,
Well, Adolph.....just kidding. You write/speak as though no one else knows about these inherent problems. Yet, year after year, porschephiles around the globe happily open their pocketbooks to buy their 911s. My 911 hasn't ever pulled its rear around a corner. In addition to having AWD, I brake early and then squeeze through the apex.
To point out the inherent shortcomings of any enthusiast car is like posting a "kick me" sign on your own back. Especially when you do it on an open forum.
Did you read the thread about the C6? It got vicious. Personally, I can't wait to drive a C6. I think it is an awesome car. M3s and tricked Stangs excite me as well. Let's see.....saw a new GTO the other day. Little *ucker has 400+hp under that hood. Awesome. How about that new Challenger coming out? How many of us would love to take a spin in one of those. Anyone got a '56 Chevy? Another one. Got my point?

I love the 997. Love the Cayman as well. The original question is one that only each individual can answer.
Before the C6 Z06 I would have never even considered a Corvette. Now it's definitely in the mix. Why not have 500+ hp for less money than a well equipped Cayman S?

I see the 911 going the way of the GT class cars 911=F599 and the Cayman/Boxster (Porsche please pick one name!) being the ultimate sports car for Porsche. Most purists will say that Porsche will not due this since it will affect the 911 sales. I ask them to look at Ferrari for this, the 599 is priced higher then the F430 and they will sell ALL plus some of those. If someone goes into purchase a new Ferrari they have a choice of track ready and touring GT car. I may be WAY of line with the new panorama being introduced in the coming year but to me it just makes sense.
BTW.. Deutydog you did own a (as you put it) Coxster??/ Does this mean you are a chick or are you comming out of the closet??

They sure do. Which, of course, means nothing in terms of the inherent dangers in many 911 platform cars.
My 911 hasn't ever pulled its rear around a corner. In addition to having AWD,
Yes, AWD will help cure TTO but unless you want AWD, what a price to have to pay in weight and cost.
I brake early and then squeeze through the apex.
This asumes you know the apex, you aren't under emergency handling situations and you are advanced knowledged on TTO. How many Porsche salesman take their customers out and 360 them for their edification?

If opposing albeit accurate POV are terms for a butt kicking, is this truly an open form?

I suppose. I should be scared for my butt and flame retardant for the vicious attacks which will follow it.

BTW, welcome to 6Speedonline . . . Good first thread - attacking the 911 platform unprovoked . . .
I don't think the 911 is "backwards," but I doubt anyone on here would proclaim a rear-engine design the ultimate starting point for a high-performance sportscar. Still, all-in-all, 911's are pretty great cars, especially the 993/996/997 platforms, and I'd venture that I don't think they have yet been rendered irrelevant by the cars you mention.
Lots of great cars out there. Just because one doesn't do it for you, doesn't mean it should be relegated to the scrap heap.

Then it finally hit me after rummaging through the glovebox and noticing the factory installed tampon dispener. It was at that point i realized that this vehicle is designed for people with vaginas, so it was promptly traded in on a more testosterone oriented 996

is porsche still giving away a matching purse with the purchase of a new boxster?
