so i got my air filter yesterday, and my brother comes in, notices it, and informs me that there are articles floating around about how K&N air filters don't do the job right... should i switch back to a stock paper filter? I've heard this before but since I'm running K&N currently, I figured i would just replace it (i would rather do that instead of oil it myself)... any help? thanks

I would say not to believe or read everything that is online. They work, plain and simple.

I have run K&N filters all of my life starting on my street bikes 20 + years ago. They are easy to clean and oil. Do whatever you want but they are good filters. There is a reason why they are so very popular and its not because they don't work.

The perceived issue is one of the oil contaminating the MAF. Some people claim this is a big problem, others say the filter/MAF combo works fine. My guess is its a function of how much oil is applied to the filter.

not saying i do or dont believe everything i read online, but my brother's take on things is enough for me to investigate a little on my own... theres no doubt K&N lets more air through, but the question is if it filters enough. just wanted to see if others could support or refute the claims out there.

if you go to reclean the filter and over oil it, yes you could possibly have a issue. It is not the brand new filter that is the problem, it is the customers reoiling that happens to cause problems. Check this out -

I agree with you .
I don't believe anything you have to say online .

Having NO filter "works" even better " plain and simple "
(as long as you don't care how much dirt you get into your engine)

As I recall, you made performance gain claims of up to 32 HP
for the K&N filter unit a while back.

Shark Werks (one of your competitors ) challenged you
on this issue and offered you $5000 if you could prove your claims.

Did you ever collect ?

And if the filter is suitable for , and works well under all conditions,
tell K&N to remove the WARNING .

Oh, and just in case you don't understand what dirt can do in an engine,
here is a picture for you (and that is with a "good" filter after as low as 35 k miles )

I never said anything about no filter. I never made claims of 32hp. Reread your hatred. Alex at sharkwerks could careless. BTW I dont make K&N, do you need a contact person there to yell at? They put a warning on there for people like you that also i need the red hand telling them not to cross the street . Have a better day man, this is the internet...

WHOOOA ,
such anger, hatred ... Lol

You never said anything about NO filter ?
Then I suppose you never could have made power gain claims of 50 HP
from NO filter and your reflash either .
If Vivid no longer sells K&N products , why are you here ?
( never mind , I don't really care )

I don't know you either, but there are a lot of people who DO
(and perhaps wish they did not )

As you said: " this is the internet " . Have a nice day, man.

Please link us all to the claims? I have dyno sheets of all our work here.

Our complete K&N catalog is located here -
http://www.vividracing.com/catalog/i...acturers_id=83

We are one of their very large distributors. We also helped introduce the 996/997 product to the Porsche market. I think we have sold about 300 units with very very satisfied customers.

JCS, you are really out of line, you have yet to post anything other than your own rantings about how you feel about K&N.

One of your claims is complete bull**** and even after I pointed it out to you you are still claiming its true.

Quit trollling.

I beg your pardon.

If you pronounce something to be bull****, then undoubtedly it must be so.
Thank you for pointing it out.

You have to forgive me.
I'm getting very confused with your posts .
You stated that you never said anything about K&N filters ,
now you state that you are one of their very large distributors ....
then you deleted the post to which I responded...

But , since you asked , here are a few comments from some of your
"very ,very satisfied" customers :

http://www.vividracingsucks...... ( well the title says it all ) Lol

btw: I don't want you to think that I actually took the time to look for these .
They were posted by one of your fellow mod shops .

Isn't the internet great ? Lol

JCS, your posts show lack of character. In fact go to vividracingsucks. then please go to modsearch and look at the EXTREMELY old posts. We are a well respected vendor on alot of forums. You can always look for the bad. In fact, there is a Paypalsucks, Targetsucks, and many other out there. If we were such a bad company full of liars, then we would not be sitting where we are at today with a successful business, many many happy 6speeders, doing million's of dollars a year. So if you want to look for the bad to make yourself feel better, so be it. You as well this thread is no longer worth my important time.

You don't know me, and I don't know you.Remember ?

I don't have the slightest interest in either you , or K&N .
I feel great . So why would I want to make you look bad ?

As you very well know, the statements are from some
of your very very satisfied customers , not from me.

And I only posted them after you insisted I do.

Btw: congratulations on a very artful exit .
On that note, even though my time is probably not nearly
as valuable as yours, I will join you .
Have a great and successful life (as do I ) Lol
