Lowering springs

I'm tempted to go with Eibach lowering springs, but do they really require ~6 hours of labor to switch out? If so, coilovers may make more sense . . .

I did H&R springs on my 08 Cayman along with 19s and I must say I have been pretty bummed. I wish I just coughed up the extra cash and did coilovers bc there is still about a 2inch gap in the rear that drives me nuts.

I know it's a bit late, but I wrote up my experience on my 986S.

That's odd... the H&R springs (unless they changed it in last year or so) usually have the car sit lower in the rear than the front. THere are a number of threads on another forum on this subject - search "negative rake". I assume the springs have settled? Take some measurements and report back - measure from center hub to top of fender opening. I started a thread on another board where different folks post their ride hieght with different springs. Someone I know with HR has 14.25" front & rear - overall range appears to be between 13.75 - 14.25.

Here is a picture of cayman with H&R's... and it doesn't look like a 2" gap in the rear.

Thanks for the help I measured the front to be 13.50 and the rear 14.5 I also attached a pic and the wheels are 19s. The front gap isnt to bad but the gap in the rear looks pretty bad.

How new is the setup? It usually only take a couple 100 miles or sit yourself in the trunk to help accelerate settling. Eibachs usually sits higher than H&R. I would suggest jacking up the car and look whether there are rubber spacers/perches on top of springs. Some cars come from factory with rubber spacers. So, give it a look.

Coilover is overkill for anything that's not dedicated track car. It costs way too much and gives marginal (if any) benefit on a street car over springs only or springs + shocks setup. $1300 for C/O vs. $250 for springs... you can't win by arguing cost, even if install cost is the same.

Cayman R shocks and springs is gonna be the perfect street setup if you ask me. It's gonna cost about $1k though not $250. It's actually the same shocks used on the spyder, just with new springs for the cayman R. Should be available any time now!

Ive had the springs on for roughly 1200 miles now so they should have settled by now. I am going to look for a rubber spacer tonight and if I see it I will have it back in the shop to be removed hopefully solving the problem.

I have H&R springs on my 09 S and the drop is right for me. There is not 2 inches of gap. I have read on another forum that springs cause a "bouncy" ride. My car does not bounce any more than stock as far as I can tell.
The springs plus the right spacers produces the best look imho.
