Good that we can all laugh out how senseless these posts are but they are entertaining nonetheless.

SLP & Mudman - I have a question

How do you like your Cayenne's? Would you buy another?

Of course you know of the horror stories going around on some forums about the 03/04 Beta's and the 05 still has some minor issues.

What is your "real world" experience with these SUV's?

I found an 05 CS in White but ran the carfax and it shows an accident reported in Sept 07. Outside of that they lied about the interior which is PALM GREEN and not Black as advertised.

I think I have spotted an 06 CS White/Sand without Air Suspension.

I have a very strong running 4.4i BMW X5 with 4.6i Aero Kit that I would be giving up.

Just wanted some feedback.

In general if its an early MY04 , i.e. April 03 - Oct 03, walk away

If its later than that make sure you get a CPO or factor in a third party warranty as there are many issues with the 03/04, less with 05 less still with 06 which is basically a solid bet. Mainly electrical gremlins, transmission module changes and updates to cure(reduce) drive by wire lag issues.

The engine is basically rock solid, the transmission on later 04 models are better from the point of view of reduced(never eliminated) hesitation. Misc things like the rear hatch glass opening by themselves, badly set up alignment, Drive Shaft (Carden Shaft) failure, remote controls having no range, wiper blades of bad quality, all of which should have been taken care of by the dealer when serviced but you never know. On top of that dont forget the designed oil consumption on the TT of about 1 ltr every 1500 miles or so.

I am sure I missed some stuff and others an chip in.. If well looked after from new by a good dealer its most likely a good car but it could also be VERY bad if out of warranty.

By the way I have an 04 S and I am still thrilled to drive it even with all the crap I had to go thru (first name terms with all the mechanics at the dealer)

Get the Air Suspension as a must, for so many reasons.

Would I buy another ? good question......most likely, yes

Mike,

Thank you so very much for the informative write up. You addressed the things that I have heard about and CPO or aftermarket Warranty is a definate must.

I want the air suspension but so many cars that I have been looking for do not have it. No one lists the option even when it is on the SUV. If the SUV has PASM it has air suspension correct? How else outside of running my Porsche SA crazy with VIN checking can I tell? I ask many dealers and they don't know if it does or if it doesn't

I want to add a body kit and lower the SUV. I know - I know what in the blazes are you thinking an SUV is designed to do? It will still have better clearance than my 997TT which I lowered 1.25 inches already. Poor lip spoiler...

I definately know about the TT oil consumption. Which reminds me to put another liter into the Gal tonight. She is asking for more.

Once again thank you for the response and I hope to find my White or Titanium CS sometime soon.

Khanh

If you look to the center just rear of the gear selector, if it has a rocker switch passenger side then it has air. Of course all TT have air.

PASM = Air, yes

With air you can add a third party mod to lower the suspension to load height when you need it and still have the ability to raise it to a good level when you travel to such places as PA where the roads are not so smooth.

Nice thank you. I will look more. I might move into a Turbo if the money is right.

Thanks once again.

I agree with the above posts on the cayennes. I have a MY 05 Cayenne S and I love the darn thing. Its amazing, drives superbly, and havent had much issues. Put about 19k miles on the car, and no major issues aside from changing the wiper blades b/c of the poor quality of the original ones. Other than that...hmm....thats it. Went to the dealer earlier this year b/c the airbag light came on...seems as though there was a recall on the airbag harnesses in the front 2 seats that they replaced. Aside from that, cars been running smooth and amazing. For an SUV, this car is astounding. Drives much better and much more enjoyable that the x5..IMO.
Would I buy another? Yes...but not now. Only because Id like to sample the other cars in the Porsche line. However, if I ever need an SUV...the Cayenne would be the ONLY one I would ever buy.
