Tiny scratches on my '08 Cayenne S

Hello guys,

There are some tiny scratches on my Cayenne S, either I caused them when drying my car up with that ****ty towel or the car wash tunnel that I used to go. Anyways, how can I get rid of them before it gets too late? Should I use those scratch removers that they sell on Wal-Mart or go to Ziebart or what? Please guide me through this. And if I need to go to some sort of a shop, how much will they charge me for this? Thank you guys!!!

Canberk - I would have a well established/reputable deatailer remove the swirl marks for you. Unless you are really good with the orbital and know the process to remove them without burning the paint then I would let the pros do it. It should not cost you that much - perhaps $125.00 for a full detail inside/out and swirl removed.

I am fortunate to have a very good detailer at my dealership that will do it for me when the time comes. My car remains inside at all times and he gets to work under the right conditions. So I am happy to have this at the dealership.

He is detailing my Turbo on Monday. Clay Bar, Swirl Removal, Wax, Leather Condition, Vacuum - $125.00.

Ask your local dealership they might have someone there that is good.

Hey Alpine_997, that sounds like a good deal. I will ask my dealer about that.

Pick up Scratch-X from Meguiars. You can apply it by hand but depending on how deep the scratches are, you can use a dual-action polisher. If you apply it by hand, don't try to rub it out because you can damage the clear coat. If you use a dual-action polisher, set it to 3 and you will not ruin the clear coat.

Go to the Detailing section of the forum, those guys will help you and even sell you the products. I had the same scratches, I bought the equipment and products and fixed mine myself. It is not easy and takes a lot of time but it is safe and removes the scratches.

Unfortunately, there's no easy permanent solution to your troubles.

My recommendation would be to pick up a Porter Cable 7424 Random Orbital and some high quality polishing products (Griot's Garage, Zaino Brothers, etc.) and go to town. Depending on how deep your scratches are you may be able to elminate, or atleast properly hide all your troubling scars.

I don't mean to sound like a Griot's Garage fan-boy, but check out www.griotsgarage.com if you're not already familiar.

Regards,

If you only have some hairline scratches to remove, just get a bottle of good quality canuba wax (like Meguiars or Mothers) for less than $10 and be sure to use clean microfiber cloth. Spend a few hours and you are done. There are plenty of better wax for much more money but I have not tried them.

Wax will not get out scratches, although a lot of waxes have fillers which will hide the scratches. As mentioned above you need to use polish. Either go to a detail shop or get a porter cable/Griot's random orbital with the right pads, polish, and wax. Once you start detailing your own cars, you'll get addicted.

Have your dealer do it. Will take no time at all.

For more information on scratch removal, or detailing in general, go to www.meguiarsonline.com. This forum will provide all the answers you'll ever need, even last weeks winning lotto numbers.

... now back to Cayenne-specific stuff ...

Meguiars, are you serious?

I think scratches on a Cayenne would qualify as "Cayenne specific stuff"

Not sure if your comment was in jest, but I imagine he means this should be in the 'Detailing' sub-forum.

try these products. they could help you out

When it's about car bodywork treatments I use Ma-Fra products and they work perfectly. I used their product that eliminates surface scratches
I'ts an italian brand, they are leaders in Italy and their products are very good. If you want, you can try it.
