Why?? Warranty Repair Issues

So I took my CTT in because of a few things that need to be addressed at some time although none are critical. For instance, the factory installed Aluminum roof rails and slats ($1200 option) are showing signs of the covering failure on the slats. It turns out Posrsche was too cheap to actually use aluminum for the slats and only used it for the actual rails on either side. $1200 for plastic pieces... come on Porshce! My car is still in warranty and my stealer tells me that they won't cover it. Clearly it is a manufacturers defect with no damage caused by something being placed on it.
The center armrest has some flaws underneath the leather (no damage to the surface) and again I'm told that they (Porsche) doesn't like to pay for things like that. Clearly a manufacturers defect AGAIN.

What the hell is the warranty really good for anyway?? I gues a "bumper to bumper" is not what they had in mind for the $100k cars! My BMW's have no issues getting items replaced like this but it seems that my P-cars that cost 2x as much always present problems. WHY? WHY? WHY??

One more thing: key fobs- as anyone had their's replaced because the spot over the lock/unlock seems to get a dimple and is clearly going to wear through? Is THAT a warranty item or the good ole' standby of "wear and tear" and not covered??

So much seems to come down to dealer relationship. I have had zero issues with warranty items through my dealer but I have purchased numerous cars from them, used them exclusively for service, and give my service writer, mechanic, and salesperson nice gifts at the end of each year - just like I do with other long-term vendors. From my experience they have a lot of leeway, it is just a matter of relationship - for better or for worse.

I hear that. I too have 2 P-cars and that has not mattered in helping with service and the "opportunity" to have be buy more...

Do you have multiple dealers to choose from in your area?

Just had this fixed on my wife's key - replaced both keys as well since the panic button fell off of it. Covered under warranty, no questions.

Nope. I live in Va Beach, VA (Norfolk) and there is only one dealer and they are notoriously difficult to deal with since I suspect that PCNA incents dealers to avoid warranty claims. They are not a "large" dealer and I suspect that they play the claims game to maximize their ability to get what they want from Porsche. Of course that means that customers get screwed. The next closest dealer is 90 miles away in Richmond.

I will likely take these issues up with the regional rep or at least call PCNA as it appears that there are "inconsistencies" with interpreting the warranty guidelines.

IMHO, if it breaks are shows signs of breakage under warranty it should be repaired or replaced with no questions asked. Porsche are the only cars I have ever had a problem getting something replaced on and go through cars like many here do (at least one a year or more).

Hate to hear that. As I said a couple of posts back, I have never had a problem with Porsche but I have two local dealerships so they certainly have more incentive since their customers aren't a captive audience. Hopefully going up the chain will resolve it for you.

The "excuse" I keep getting is that the conditions I am showing represent "normal wear and tear". I have a hard time with that since I don't feel that is the case. My CTT has 28k miles, is stored in a garage and even has the Porsche Entry and Drive which limits the times I even have to touch the remote yet that and the roof rack are showing signs of defects in material or workmanship.

I need a good rebuttle to "normal wear and tear" as it seems my stealer likes to use that one for everything. Anyone have a good response to that??

I've done a bunch of searching on the forum for warranty threads since I'm at 54k & on extended warranty which is good through July 2009. The July date seems to be coming a bit too fast & I'm not ready to "go naked" as they say. The little issues on our CTT all seemed to be ironed out & we're just doing routine maintenance, but how many +70k mile CTT's are running around out there semi-problem free? We seem to be coming to a crossroads: if we sell the vehicle by year-end there'll be a tangible selling point (ie. remainder of extended warranty) to the car or do we cross our fingers & hope for the best. Ideas?
