Thoughts on Gas Mileage

I am considering a Cayenne S or GTS. Question is, with gas at $4/Gallon and rising, would you be concerned getting into a Cayenne right now? I dont need the space of an SUV but I just really like the Cayenne for a daily driver.

A year ago the Cayenne would be my daily driver, but I just filled up the tank yesterday and it cost me $93!!! Gas mileage is not anything to brag about on these cars either. But considering my E55 only gets about 12mpg I am pretty assed out until the SMARTcar finally comes in. Now I'm looking at my 911 as a daily as it gets the best mileage of all my cars. Who woulda thought

If the concern is mileage and space is not an issue, get a Mazda 3

Gas mileage is rather poor on these vehicles, but a huge joy to drive. First I think it depends on what mileage your putting on your vehicle in a week. My commute to work is
very short and once in a while I do go on long trips, which then my wifes MB is used. Also, I find that it depends on your driving habits, as to how far a tank of gas will go. If I drive my GTS "gently", I notice that the mileage is much improved over really stomping on the pedal. Just my observation.

High gas prices will give you more leverage in negotiating your purchase, so it's actually a good thing !

Actually I pulled up the specs for several SUV's and the Cayenne ended up about average or even a little bit above average in terms of MPG for an SUV. Interesting... I have never owned an SUV so I thought that 13/19 MPG was really low. Come to find out its about average, even compared to mid level SUV's like the 4Runner,etc...

your correct in that the Cayenne is the middle of the road as far as gas mileage. My friend has a Range Rover and he gets about 13 miles to the gallon, compared to my 16. Of course amount of city driving compared to highway weighs in on that. I always wanted a 911 but with my lifestyle of mtn. biking, rock climbing etc. and not to mention hauling stuff around has always made me want an SUV. Nothing in my opinion comes close to the Cayenne. Best of both worlds, sports car handling and acceleration with the convienence of extra space.

As others have said, now could be the best time to negotiate on a Cayenne S or GTS. Play the low MPG card. The Cayenne is selling well at the dealerships, so use every advantage you can get. You might even get a great deal on a Certified Pre-Owned (CPO) vehicle - usually with a 10 year / 100,000 warranty.

I've been monitoring the MPG of my Cayenne and it gets 13 MPG. When I'm on-it, it gets ~8. My 500E gets only 15 MPG. Fuel mileage is always relative.

Only 13? I thought that the Cayenne S is supposed to get 13/18?

Realistically you will see an average of about 14 on a GTS. You could always wait until the 2009 Cayenne Hybrid comes out. Supposedly will have around 340 HP and average in the low 20s for gas mileage.

I can't wait for the Cayenne Hybrid! My local dealership tells me more like 2010, but I hope they're wrong. I've read 24 to 27 MPG for new Cayenne Hybrid.

400 ft-lbs right at idle! I'm strongly considering this vehicle for my wife that currently drives a Honda CR-V, which gets 22 MPG (average).

Cannoli, where in Cali are you located? I am a dealer and should have more information soon about the 2009s. From what I hear it should be a 2009 model but again, until Porsche releases the information, who knows!

I've driven a 04CTT demo and you could display the instantaneous gas mileage on the dash display. I purchased an 05CTT and I can't seem to do this. Any other years allow you to see the miles per gallon in real time ?

Another cure to the gas mileage is to live 1 mile from work

Cheers
