2008 Cayenne Silver Hood Crest install
2008 Cayenne Silver Hood Crest install
a previous poster mentioned that he purchased a silver hood badge to install on his 2008 cayenne, took it to the dealer only to have them tell him that the badge was a different size for the '08. there is some good news, the badge is not different. the only difference is actually the way it is mounted.
the pre 08's are installed with the self tapping nuts that come with the purchase of a porsche badge. the 2008's are mounted with a new bracket system that locks in place - eliminating the need for the nuts that screw onto the 2 posts.
i took some pictures of my install that i hope will help future attempts.

once you have access, you'll be able to see the bracket holding the badge in place. you will see the 2 posts of the badge protruding from it.
there are 2 brackets involved that hold the badge in place. one is actually attached to the badge (sadly enough held on by 2way tape) and the other sits underneath the bumper cover latching on the badge.
this picture shows the 2 brackets apart. the left shows the bracket that is attached to the badge. this was held onto the badge by 2 way tape. i'm assuming when u buy an 08 factory badge, it will come with these brackets instead of the old self tapping nuts.

the next step is to install the badge in place. since i butchered the brackets taking them out, i didn't use them.
i first used some bodyshop 2way tape to secure the badge in place then screwed the nuts onto the posts. i think this is a little more secure since the only thing between the badge and a theif is the factory 2way tape. voila.

I just did it a day or two ago. The one closest to the badge has three clips which can be released with a screwdriver from behind the bumper cover. The other one has three tabs which need to be pushed in from outside the bumper cover, then it can be pushed to the passenger side of the vehicle to remove it.
If that doesn't help, let me know and I will try to clarify.

So it sounds like the inside one is clipped to the bumper cover & the outer one that the crest is taped to clips to it. If this is the case, then I don't see a reason to remove the inner one when replacing the crest unless you wish to install nuts on the crest to prevent theft. Am I understanding this correctly?
Thanks for the reply.
