My Cayenne is coming up on 45k miles and I was considering an extended warranty... any ideas??? Do you have to purchase through the dealer???

there are companies that will honor a warranty if you decide to purchase through them,
BUT I would honestly only extend through the dealership.
You MUST do it before it expires though, bc one day after, and they will not extend.
It's not a bad deal, because it's prorated. Whatever you do not use, and depending when you sell, you get $$ back, when you purcahse a new Porsche.

If you are keeping your car, might not be a bad idea.

I bought one from my local dealer. I'm at about 42,000 miles now and my factory warranty expires in October.

Make sure you read the fine print. A good aftermarket warranty for a Cayenne will be expensive, probably $3 - 4K depending on the package that you choose.

Yes, they are quite expensive, but if you plan to keep the Cayenne for a while they may be worth it. If your PCM goes out (known to happen) or you suffer some major mechanical failure, it will more than pay for itself.

That being said, I know several people who own Cayennes "naked" and who continue to rack up miles well beyond 50,000. It's all a matter of how comfortable you are with risk.

I've had 3 quotes ranging from $6000 - $6400... did you get an exclusionary policy??? I heard unless you get that type of policy they can get out of covering everything...

Where did you get one for 3-4k?

I'm not familiar with the term "exclusionary" as it relates to these warranties, so I'm not sure. My dealer said that this warranty is used by his customers on a regular basis, and that it is very good. Again, I purchased it directly through my local Porsche dealer, and it came with a very detailed list of exactly what was covered and what was not. It was very comprehensive with regard to coverage.

Do you have your dealer's contact info? I'd like to call him for a quote...

It's O'Daniel Porsche in Fort Wayne, IN. I bought it last year. I'm not sure if they still offer it, but I would imagine that they do.

I've heard good things about Mercury insurance. There has been a couple of threads in the past.
