Since I trade vehicles every 5-6 years, I'll look but won't be buying for a year or two. That way I can save up the difference.

Its the GTS.. They hit most dealers today from my understanding. I played with the nav look at my other post.

Yes...they're hee-er. I picked up the orange beastie last night. It actually arrived at the dealer on Tuesday. Not bad, considering it was shipped from Europe on June 13. The new PCM is sweet and the upgraded Bose system sounds better, although I don't think it is quite as good as some of the upgraded OEM systems in other high-end vehicles (the new Jaguar XF has a particularly great system). But I'm not a major audiophile, so the Bose system is just fine.

I'm really impressed with the manual trans so far, despite what some of the grouchier automotive writers have penned. Sure, the throws are a bit longer than on a sports car, but the clutch is light and easily modulated and the shift action is positive. The only challenge will be keeping myself controlled during the break-in period. My dealer recommended NOT babying it too much, but also not revving the hell out of it, either, for the first 2000 miles.

Hopefully, I'll have some pictures soon. I'm diggin' the nordic gold, but is is definitely orange. I was at a stoplight this morning and a 4-year-old pointed at my GTS and yelled, "Mommy...I REALLY like that orange car!" So, in the midst of my midlife crisis, I've discovered that I have the aesthetic sense of a toddler.

Congrats. I almost committed to ordering one with the same color as yours as well as 6 spd manual. However, dealer will not negotiate and only willing to give me 2k off on a 80k+ car. So I walked. Now, with gas prices so high, I think maybe they will be more flexible on the pricing. I am also choosing between nordic gold and macadamia metallic. Pugman, when you have a chance to drive it on the freeway, can you please let me know what rpm you have around 75mph in 6th gear? Also very interested in knowing about your mpg?? Thanks a bunch.

Haven't been able to drive 75 mph yet, but 60-65 is ~2700-3000 rpm...definitely not geared to be a lazy cruiser. My mileage has been really horrible so far, largely due to getting stuck in rainy rush hour expressway traffic last night. I've only put on 150 miles so far and the monitor indicates about 11 mpg. But I've been driving in sport mode mostly and with a lead foot (but still keeping max rpm below 4500 in each gear--per dealer's suggestion for first 2K miles). I'm going to go for a more mellow weekend drive to see how much that affects mpg.

The new PCM with XM real-time satellite traffic information is pretty cool, especially when the nav is set in the bird's eye/3D-ish mode. But I still haven't even begun to explore all the features of the PCM.

Other general first impressions:

The sport setting for the suspension is more compliant than I expected; "normal" is very comfortable; and "comfort" seems to impart some weird floaty ride motions and I imagine using it only on really crappy roads. I didn't get PDCC and I don't think I'll miss it in my totally flat and crowded Chicago metro area. It remains impressively flat on freeway ramps taken at high speed in sport mode. But if I lived where there are hills and not so damn many people, I probably would have opted for PDCC.

The initial quality is flawless. I've been driving Mercedes and Toyota vehicles exclusively for more than 25 years, and while those have mostly been delivered with very minimal assembly/cosmetic flaws, the GTS appears to be the best ever (or at least equal to my greatly-missed 1995 Supra, which was almost eerily perfect). Maybe Porsche's first-by-a-longshot ranking In JD Powers wasn't just hype (although initial quality rankings don't necessarily correspond to long-term reliability).

I think Macadamia is going to look fantastic on the Cayenne. My dealer has a Boxster in that color and it looks much better than in photos--not as dark as it looks on the Porsche website. Macadamia with Havanna/Sand in full leather would be sweet. But I'm diggin' how Nordic gold varies so much depending on the light...maybe it really IS worth the extra three grand.

Mine came with Pirelli PZero tires...I'm not sure if that's a score or a "D'oh!" Whatever the case, for 6 months out of the year it will be wearing 19" Michelin Lat Tour all-seasons on Cayenne design wheels (with 17 mm rear spacers).

My other pleasant surprise came from my insurance agent. I always get a quote before deciding on a new vehicle, but I forgot this time and was bracing myself for some sort of high-performance surcharge, but it's actually cheaper to insure than my 2004 CLK500 coupe was (but about $200/year more than my current CLK 350 cabrio...but not bad for a vehicle that's $30,000 more expensive).

In all...no buyer's remorse so far.

i think it should be in the 3200 rpm range. the manual is geared much higher than the tip.

pug - the mileage can get a bit scary when you drive them hard! i found it was so much fun though that i just didn't care.

the manual is a just plain fun to drive imo.
