spark plug for V6, $1200?
spark plug for V6, $1200?
i went to dealer for spark plug change, and they quoted me about 1200 for spark plug change only, and about 700 additional for 40k service.
it sounds expensive, is it too much? how much should i expect from an indy shop for spark plug change only?
vehicle is 2006 cayenne v6 with 40,000 miles.

Sorry man, but if you really even have to ask that question then you must smell like a sucker from miles away...
My guess is that your ENTIRE 40k mile service is about $1900. That is pretty expensive as well. I just had the dealership do my 40k service and they charged me almost $1300 for everything...which means I am also a sucker - just not quite as bad.
yes, indeed, im a sucker. and wow, spark plug change is so expensive.
im picking up my cayenne from the dealership tomorrow, ( had an oil change and inspection), and ill find out what needs to be replaced/fixed from the inspection.
i'll probably take that list to a near indy shop and get serviced there.
BUT, as socal555 mentioned, i want to know how hard is to change spark plugs at home, if i can do it, i'd rather do it home. is it do-able? where can i find some info about 'change spark plugs yourself'?

You know, I must be missing something here. Do you have to pull the whole damn engine to get to the plugs? Are the spark plugs coated in diamonds? This isn't a rear engine layout like a 911 where every servicable item is hidden under body parts. This is a traditional (read: accessible) V6 motor layout, right?
very good tutorial, thanks steve,
i'll look for some more info about changing it, and i'll try and see.
but im still a sucker, its very possible that i will probably end up taking my car to an indy shop....

I meant for the 40K mile service, not the for the plugs.
I assume you mean bank 1-4 passenger side, the one with the torque arm braket? The arm and air pump need to come out of the way, the coil pack cover has to be removed by unscrewing the fasteners and lifting up on the intake manifold side. Then you have to pry up on the part of the cover over cyl 2 and slide the whole cover forward toward the front of the car clearing the torque arm braket. The torque arm bracket over cyl 2 coil has to come off as well. At that point all the coils are right there.
Thats exactly the spot. It's kind of shoe horned in there and def easy to scratch the cover on the way out. Soft cloth or wide painters tape works well.
