Extended Warranty Issue on Regular maintenance
Extended Warranty Issue on Regular maintenance
I took my 2004 S to the dealer today to have it approved for the extended warranty. Dealer quoted me $3,000. They also informed me that I needed to have the brake fluid changed ($350), coolant replaced ($275) and oil/filter changed ($300). I told them I would do them myself (My indy shop does it all for a lot less) and that they should just do the other warranty work I brought it it for. They said that if I did the maintenance work somewhere else, I would not be able to purchase the extended warranty and that all servicing has to be done at the dealer. I know this is total bullsh*t!!!
So my question is, what should I do? Anyone else have this happen to them?
is the extended warranty even worth it for 3k?
Thanks in advance!

They cannot deny warranty coverage because THEY (PCNA) has to prove that any warranty related failure has a relation to the service they indicate was not done or done correctly. They cannot make you do service at the dealer (aka: stealer). Just let them know you'll call PCNA AND your attorney plus state's attorney to confirm this practice and that should jolt them back to the world the rest of us live in.
I asked them to brake down the costs for me. They are the following
1. Oil/Filter Change: 1 hour labor @ $105.00 + 9 quarts oil (aprox. $150.00) + filter($23.35)
2. Coolant Flush: 2 hours labor @ $105.00 ($210.00) + 2 Galons Coolant $50.00 each
3. Brake Fluid Replacement: 2 Hours labor @ $105.00 ($210.00) + 2 galons brake fluid $50.00 each
This is totally incredible and unreasonable!

i personally don't think it's worth it. Chances that you face a repair that will cost more than 3k is too less to get the extended warranty. In case you do, at least you tried your chance before getting ripped off
I know they sound average for a dealer (still excessive by any means) but can they deny to sell me the extended warranty when my car meets all criteria, for not changing the oil, coolant, and brake fluid with them in order to aprrove it? thst sounds off to me!
$105 per hour is cheap--the stealer here in the Palm Springs area is $140/hr. $150 for 9 qts of oil seems a bit excessive Autozone sells 0W40 Mobile 1for less than $7/qt or about $63/9.
