Just put the Scorpions on...Speechless
For all of you having doubts out there about pulling the trigger on Pirelli Scorpion Ice and Snows...DO IT... theyre worth every penny. After trying to get through a recent snow storm here in chicago, i knew the continental all seasons that came with the car werent gonna cut it. Ofcourse they were delivered after the snow from the storm had melted..but you better believe that i was waiting for Chicago to get hit with the second round of snow JUST to try em out...and incase you cant already tell...they worked like a charm.
I think its just the Cayenne in general.., as I'm very surprised with the handling. In Seattle, we have been snowed in for the last few days. My Cayenne is amazing in the snow.., I'm blown away by it. I took off the 22's and threw on some Toyos that I had siped on my 18's and the thing just drives! I think the Toyos are the open countrys but can't remember. But for snow driving, the Porsche is SICK!

I tried to order the 295/35/21 scorpions before my big holiday trip next week up to the mountains, but Tire rack is back ordered till the 2nd week in Jan. 8-( I have to say, the 21" Yokahama summer tires absolutely SUCK in the snow!!
yup, those came stock with my GTS, and you're right, they are terrible. I went through one snow in CO and then changed mine out to the perellis snow and ice.
If you don't have the space for a dedicated 18 inch set, the 21's you tried ordering will have to do, but in all honesty, for best handeling on the road i snow or ice, you need a narrower/taller tire. 255/55/18 preferable.
Try discount tire or peerless or somewhere else besides tire rack if you need something soon, and want to save a $$$ sometimes.
At first I called tire rack, but in the end, I didn't feel like paying 100 bucks for shipping, plus discount tire was 15 dollars cheaper than tire rack per tire without the shipping charge, and the actual store I took my GTS to was a tire rack installer.
Good luck in your search.

We had lots this time last week. Sales on them spiked this week in preparation for Christmas road trips. Oct./Nov. is when they need to be purchased.

Unfortunately, Discount Tire doesn't even carry that tire. I was considering renting a jeep or something for the trip, but for some reason I have an issue renting a jeep when I have an $85k luxury truck sitting in the garage. Call me crazy, but I just can't bring myself to do it.
The discount tire I went to, had to order them, and get them courier'd from another store to theirs. They had them in 2 days for me.
$15 bucks cheaper / tire, and I saved the $100.00 on shipping tire rack wanted to charge. Plus since I bought from them, I have the free rotations/flats/mails/balance repairs for life of the tire.

How are the non snow and ice versions of this tire? I am mostly bay area driving with occassional runs up to the Tahoe area so I am trying to find a good all around tire without having to go with dedicated snow ones...

the tires are 99% it. so long as the car's awd/4x4, you're set. he makes it sound like the cayenne has some sort of magic snow traction potion or some ****.
On my GTS I have the 18"s run flat version of the Snow & Ice and they drive really well all around the Bay. Of course, cornering isn't as great as the 21" Summer Yokohamas, but as far as noise comparison, they are astonishingly similar as far as I can tell. Just get a dedicated setup and do the swap....old rims are on Craigslist all the time and great for a winter setup.
